Help with the cat??

Okay, so we get a lot of cats at our place because of all the out buildings they're always really wild, a week or so ago I saw a really thin cat and it ran away I saw it a few times again but it wouldn't come too me, I saw it the last time and followed it with food as soon as I opened the packet it came to me and was so hungry. I got it another and by the time I got back it had gone but I found it licking itself in an old building it was scared of me but when it was eating I could pet it. It was very run down, I bought some food and fed and wormed it and even removed a tic, another cat had found where I'd be feeding it but I managed to get the thin cat to follow me home.

I made it a litter tray, a bed and a feeding spot and it is now in the garage next to my house it can't come in the house because we have dogs. The dogs are really old. And I reckon this cat has been abused and dumped it's become friendly to me and I have a bond with it I am feeding it up, obviously I can't keep it in the garage forever but I would like it to come back if I let it out, but I don't know a lot about cats, it has been a pet before I'm sure it rubs on me and has a lot of love to give, but if I let it out when do I do it ? Will it come back for food ? What if it doesn't ?:( help?

I've always understood when moving house with cats that they need to be kept inside for two or three weeks before letting them out.

You're wonderful to go to all this trouble for a stray cat: I'm very impressed!

I'm assuming the next step will be having it neutered to prevent the production of more strays?

Yes we will see how it goes, I think it has been someone's pet, it was very scared as though it had been abused and been dumped and not known how to feed itself. I'm just worried about when I let it out that it'll disappear :(
      Grown attached to it.
Also I read you have to keep them in a while. But obviously I don't know it's background or where it's from what it's truly like

Cats usually come back if they know you feed them.

  • You sound like a very nice person. We too keep two stray female dogs at our home.

You haven't got much choice, tbh. You do have to let it out, because they need much more space than a garage.
It knows there is food, so it will almost certainly come back fairly regularly.

Of course I'll let it out the cat is still so thin so I'm feeding it up :) it's become friendly and purrs, got a flea collar on it now. But I want it to know this is it's home and I heard that you have to keep them in a week or so so they know to stay like when you move etc.

It sounds like you have built a rapport with that kitty.
If you keep food available, I'm sure the cat will return.
