Help should i take the dog in?

So my fiance and I are going to be moving within the next few months. We just bought some property a few hours away and it's going to take a little time to transition with our companies. Anyhow there is a dog that keeps coming around in the middle of the night howling in the freezing cold for a few weeks now and i domt know if i should take him with us or leave him here.

It was terrified of me and now I was able to get close to him last night he seams abused. He wouldnt come near me and if I so much as moved an inch he would take off wimpering just completely terrified. I have been putting food out for him and trying to figure out where he keeps coming from but he takes off and I can't see where he's coming from. Its been about 30 during the day and in the teens at night and this poor thing has to be freezing.

I don't want to take someone's dog if he indeed isn't abandoned, but at the same time there's obvious abuse here. Please any advise will be helpful!

If you think the dog is abused or not he's still walking around loose. Unless that's not a law in your town?

Be careful to any animal that you don't know the history of. If he's abused you never know what he could do while you sleep if you did take him in.

Also remember it's someone else's pet. No tags??? I'd say call the dog catcher, but the sad reality is sometimes the dogs are taken and not found or cared to be found by owner. Then they go to kill shelters or go un-adopted and alone forever.

I really don't know what I would do in your situation. You'd hate to let the dog stay out in the cold and hungry, but you're now giving the dog a reason to come to your house.

Try to find the owner and see what they are like.
Good luck and keep us posted if you can!!!!

If you are prepared to give the dog a home for life & all that entails why not adopt him/her?

If not try finding a shelter for the pooch before the poor thing perishes.

    • I would be thrilled to take him in but I'm just worried he might belong to someone else. I would never want to take a dog from it's owner but at the same time if he does belong to someone they don't seam to be taking care of him.

Leave 'found' posters on lamp posts & in local shop windows. Ask around the neighbourhood. Contact the local rescue centre with a description of the dog.
Sometimes pets are microchipped with the owners details, vets & rehoming centres usually have scanners/readers.

If the dog has a collar on tape a note onto it saying something like `If I visit your home please call my 2nd home on ( your phone no.)`.
