The people you are with probably just are not used to black people.

I was raised in a jewish white community, so I can say from the other people's perspective that most of the time it is nothing personal, they just have to be exposed to differences long enough before they can get over them.

You likely notice that your close friends don;t really care about your race, but strangers are more likely to.

So its not you, its their inexperience.

It sounds like you might have to move maybe people in that town are secretly racist or small minded that happens in small towns

I grew up in a small town (pop 1000) and the reason people take note of anyone is when they appear different from everyone else, so it's no big deal, you're just seen as exotic to the rest of the people living there. There were always black people living here for example (dating way back to the 1600's), but being one individual makes you stand out - but hey, at least you're getting noticed! Here the village blacksmith was a black man, and back to the fur trading days the area had black traders, so nothing's as new as one thinks. Besides that, in truth the rest of us are all basically 'albino' Namibians from African ancestors at an earlier time that populated the rest of the planet and adapted to lower light levels - it's just hard for some people to get used to the fact we don't all look the same, and we're not all Johnson's.
I suppose if you're looking for a mate in that small town it might be a bit of a challenge, you could go a little farther afield to a larger town where people are more confident and comfortable with themselves, and bring back a mate, I would recommend that just for your own piece of mind, or else you will have to deal with the Johnson's.
I don't fully understand this small town either; if you've ever seen the Red Green show, you know this bunch of loons. Possum lodge is rural North America, for better or for worse. Annoying but ever present locals, Geeks and Greeks just don't quite fit in, unless we act more local (or loco?) - I'm just not good at that either. Oh well, there's no perfect anywhere, so just make the best of it!

Show them your true colors and by that i dont mean skin. Cultures are different but they do mix speak up and act out. Dont move away just because u think people arent accepting make them accept you and spread some of that coco cause the best chocolate is mixed with milk.
