Heavyish drinking for around 3 years

i'm 21 now, and ive drank pretty much every day since i was 18, i did drink before that but it wasnt as easy to get hold of alcohol, it started with around 4 cans of lowish strength lager a night anywhere between 3%% and 5%% now i drink around 6 to 8 cans a night, i try to buy drinks are no more than 4%% so it does less damage, and often go out once or twice a week where i get pretty wasted but not to the extent where im throwing up, i don't want to fully quit drinking but i would really like to cut down, does anyone have any idea how much damage im doing to myself, i had a blood test not long ago for dizzyness but everything came back fine. does anyone have any ideas to help me cut down? or has anyone been through this problem before and resolved it. ive tried alcohol free lager but its just disgusting

    Cirrosis
Alcohol affects every organ in your body. But especially the liver and cause cirrosis.
Try to not get too drunk when you drink. limit yourself to 4 a night (if you drink). I have a problem with drinking, so I can't even do that.
Self control is key. and you lose a bit of self control every time you drink.
I think its NOT NORMAL to become an alcoholic. But I can definately relate. You should Probably get help. Alcoholism is serious.

Sorry to say, but you may be one of us who CANT cut down, no matter how badly we want and how much we try. Acid test to see if you ate potentially alcoholic: next time when drinking, predetermined how many drinks you will have, and when you've had them, DTOP ABRUPTLY. If need be try it more than once. Your experience her may dhow that you can't quit on your own free will. That my friend is alcoholism. And there's a life of joy well beyond it. Now go see what happens!

Hi, just wanted to put in my two cents on this. I'm older than you but very familiar with the situation. First of all there is no way of knowing how much damage you might be doing; some people drink for decades and are in great health while others drink less than five years and have severe consequences. Getting regular checkups is good as far as that goes. Also, the person above who said "you will die", all I can say is that non-drinkers die early all the time; of course you will eventually die, we all do! I guess it's a matter of what risky behavior you do or don't do while under the influence that will be the best risk indicator. 80 percent of physicians will tell you in good faith that alcoholism is NOT a desiese but rather a behavior related to poor impulse control. Cancer is desiese maybe even diabetes but you control what you put into your body. A lot of the bad pesdicide/hormone filled and fake foods and over the counter medicines we take are easily as harmful to the liver as alcohol. It is a matter of making informed choices. You can say you are powerless if that works for you but I find the very best way to drink less or more appropriatly is to work out a lot, eat good clean foods and stay busy. Hope this helps at all. I've done at least 50 hrs. of research on the subject myself (probabley twice that) and in reality no one quits with any amount of help or 'treatment' unless they really want to. Take Care, -A.

its just a matter of actittude, it can be really hard but there is no real "key" it's just drinking less, maybe drinking something non-alcoholic between beers.
Eating helps a lot but its a matter of mental strength.
wishing you luck, drinking is not bad but control is required.
PD: drinking tea or lemonade helps with anxiety maybe could drink it while you're at home.

My boyfriend is an alcoholic. I love him but dam. Every dollar to drink. I tried to break up with him four times but he wasn't having it. He just grabbed my arm and ask me what I said, and I said nothing. If drinking make you happy just ride it out.

Once you become an alcoholic or drug addict your brain will crave the substance literally for the rest of your life...you can never be a non alcoholic...a pickle cant go back to being a cucumber...so the only way to escape the alcoholism is to never drink again ..nothing at all..ever...cant even have it in food etc...because even a drop will make your brain remember it and will start such a strong craving that you will be almost unable to resist..its actually easier to not drink at all than trying to control it

  • The 4 cans of "low strength" lager isn't really that bad. Where do you even get beer that's 3%? Anyways, 4 beers a night isn't bad, but it isn't good either. 6 to 8 cans a night is getting into alcoholism territory though. A 6 pack a night is probably a small enough amount that you could still stop at will, but I wouldn't push it. 6-8 beers a night will turn you into a raging alcoholic quicker than you think. Even the amount your drinking could probably be enough to give you some liver damage and health problems. My uncle drinks about as much as you and he's fine, but its pushing it, big time

    Question?

Do you drink to get away from your troubles?

    Good luck cutting down mate:

Skip out on drinking at home at night - just have one with tea, or before bed. Find things to do that prevent you from drinking - train, walk, run whatever.

When you go out with mates, keep count, or start calling it a bit early. I can party from 8 pm to 6 am, and consume a lot of alcohol during that time - time is probably the biggest factor in how much you'll drink when you're out. Pick up a girl, make plans for the next day, whatever to get you out of the pubs and clubs earlier. Thats my opinion.

    Practical advices

1.Hangout less with your heavy drunkard friends
2.Start drinking as late as possible(out here everything shuts by 11:30 so we start drinking by 9)
    3.Stick to beer
4.Eat food no matter what happens after you drink

dont worry about the damage to liver, ive done worse.. im 28 and the liver the perfectly healthy
