He / she owes me, so they can't leave me

When you are in a committed relationship do you feel like the other person can not leave or end the relationship unless they talk about it and have very good reasons first?

Yes They Cant Just Leave WIthout Telling Me Why First 37

it's not about obligations, it's about being a decent human being. Either party can leave w/o notice, but they'd be a major douche bag to do it.

saying WHY is the best way to give the other person closure.

technically they can just leave without giving a reason, that's their right...on the other hand a reason is always nice, gives closure and lets you know if you have any areas that need improving

A relationship should ALWAYS be mutually and equally voluntary.. It's not OK to turn into a psycho and 'not allow' them to leave, regardless if they can put the reason into words right now. You can't obligate them to stay just because they can't explain why.. They need space.

OP: No one technically OWES anyone else, but it would certainly be nice if people could be honest and emotionally responsible. That being said, I don't necessarily feel that I'm OWED an explanation, but if I dedicate myself to someone, I feel that I definitely DESERVE a good explanation.

@DiscoDuck You might have a real relationship someday in which you actually invest some of yourself. When and if you do, you're going to find out just how difficult it can be to "get over" someone.

Been there, done that....never again, not in this life.

Now I see people for what they really are, nothing more, nothing less.

If he or she is unhappy, and states why or why not, then he/she has all the right to leave. It's unfair but they don't HAVE to tell you, it's whatever they choose. End of story.

I'm with you Disco Duck. But do women really want to know why? Or do they just want to talk it through, hoping to convince you to change your mind? Get the other person to do the dumping is always much easier ;o)

I dont think many men will care much if the girl leaves ... they will cry at first etc but a few montsh later they always have a better type life ... but women seem to cary all the personal baggage along for ages , also women age much faster and get fewer options... guys always seem to think they can always get a younger better girl and do a better job ... this is the main reason i think men are much more lucky in life than women.

It only takes me minutes to get over someone. Over the years I have gotten smart. Instead of dumping a female and letting her do the WHY WHY thing and stalking me. I push her button and let her dump me, once she does I immediately accept and move on. Last time I was dating this female and she had some stuff over my house [you know the female staking claims thing] I let her dump me and in 2 min flat I had her stuff packed and in a bag, she was speechless. I gave her, her stuff, closed the front door and took a shower and was over her before I was dry.
