Have you saved a whole newspaper?

Not just a clipping, but the ENTIRE newspaper? It has to be for some !special! reason, so if you saved papers to line your cat box or bird cage, or you're just a pack rat, sorry-those don't count!!

I have saved 2. One from the day my son was born, and one from 9/11 (I also took the advertisement that was inside the newspaper vending machine).

No I don't have a special newspaper saved. 31
Yes I have one or more special newspapers saved. 18
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I have saved one whole newspaper. It was the first edition of the first independent newspaper in my country. I hope I have said it right.

I have the paper from the day after Kennedy was assassinated. It's yellow but it's in otherwise perfect condition.

I think we have the one from the day our school bus crashed because the road was icy, i saw the whole thing, it slid down the hill sideways, hit a tree and bounced off(there was still some yellow paint on the bark for a few years after), then in smashed some parked car at the bottom of the hill and ended up sideways in a yard. the city bus always came shortly after, it also slid into the curb at the top of the hill so then all the kids at the bus stop ran home cos we thought it was gonna do down the hill out of control like the first one (it didn't though)... nobody was hurt.then also have one because there is a journalist up the street from us who took an artistic pic of our cat meowing on our porch at night and wrote a little story about it, i guess it was keeping him awake or something haha. We also have the 9/11 one, and i one at my late grandmothers house from my birthday and some super old ones about wars and presidential stuff... thought it was pretty interesting so i kept those

I save newspapers for utilitarian reasons... mulching my garden, fire-starter in my wood stove, wrapping paper for breakables, etc, etc, etc.

I have a weird answer because I have a whole newspaper that is old but isn't significant in that I wasn't keeping it for a reason. It just got thrown in a wardrobe and forgotten about. I used to flip through it now and again to see how much more out of date the news was becoming. Now I don't feel I can throw it away as I've got some attachment to it.

It's sad when there are people in it and you now know what is going to happen to them after the pictures were taken and the words written. Princess Diana is in it, for instance.

It's interesting to see how history unfolded too (i.e. Steve Jobs still hadn't returned to Apple). Apple was a very different company then. Pathfinder was about to land on Mars (history repeating in that Curiosity landed recently). The US government admitted the "Secret War" in Laos. There was fury at the time but it seems largely forgotten now. It was like there'd been a second Vietnam which had been kept quiet. The U.S. was under fire because the President had to issue an apology for Tuskegee around the same time. Although this was all buried deep in the paper because our government had just changed and the Tories were finally gone after 18 years. The optimism was incredible. And now that's all washed away too. I wonder what else is left to become old news.

I haven't saved them, as I am only 21, but my father has collected and passed down The Kennedy Assassination, John Lennon's, 9/11, and one about the Vietnam Conflict.

I don't know if it's like this anywhere else, but here in Australia, when university offers are released to students, they're also published in certain newspapers. My mum still has the newspaper from the date that my uni offer was published, which was almost three years ago.

I think I still have the front page from 9/11, but just that section. I didn't keep the sports page from that day.

And somewhere amid the boxes I have the front page from some September day in 1988 when someone set fire to the hills just outside of town. It burned for two weeks and killed several firefighters because of dramatic wind changes. It was sad.
