Have you hidden, or not mentioned, a significant part of your life from IIN? Even anonymously...just any part of your life that's significant but a complete secret from IIN.

Such as : your status as a parent, your marital status, your religion...etc. Something that's a HUGE part of your life but you've never mentioned it before, even anonymously, on IIN.

I'm not talking about things like your age or where you live (most people hide that at least!!), I'm talking about major life occurrences that you could talk about but have chosen to not talk about, whether privately and anonymously or not.

    I don't find personal details particularly important. So while I don't actively hide them, neither do I place enough significance on them to dish them out. To me, all statements are confessions.

    I don't go into a lot of specifics about personal things, so i'll just say when I was younger rather than when I was 19 and a half for example. I don't talk about where I'm from, but it's somewhere on the surface or which job I do, but I have mentioned it's in healthcare, so that leaves it pretty broad. I just find that giving minimal identifying specifics gives me more freedom to share experiences in higher detail.

    Of course there are things that I keep to myself. Anonymity aside, I'm sure a fair amount of people on this site have had some shit in their lives, and that shit isn't always fun or necessary to talk about. There are things, even here where no one really knows me, that I am embarrassed to bring up in conversation.

    I have done, but I don't anymore. I don't think anyone has a responsibility to reveal those parts of their life they don't want to. I sometimes talk about that sort of thing in my IIN profile if I feel like it, but never in my comments, stories or polls.

    I know you said that age wasn't important, but when you are especially young or old, I think it is relevant in that sort of way. When I joined IIN I was only 16 and I thought it was important to conceal that in order to be taken seriously. I may have alluded to it at times, and other times made it downright obvious without really meaning to, but I was deliberate in never actually saying. Now I don't really mind anyone knowing because I now know it doesn't, for the most part, effect the way people view me.

      I agree that people don't have a responsibility to reveal those things on here, and I like the way you worded that. I was going to put much of the same thing in my comment on here, but didn't quite know how I was going to word it yet.

      I think that the reason people don't mind your age, is because you conducted yourself (and still do conduct yourself) like a mature adult for the most part. I see so many stories/polls on here, mostly in the un-moderated section now, that pretty much the first thing they say is 'I'm [insert number<18], blah blah blah, is this normal?' It really has no relevance to the story or poll, and it's like they completely disregard the rules of the site and some of them even sound (to me) like they are trying to brag about their under-age status, or are just listing it for attention or something. I don't know, but I usually always report them with the "user is underage" button unless I think their poll/story is pretty serious.

      Also:

      Bull-crap, you know people read your status updates :P

      If anything, I think your age counts in your favour here, in the same way it would have done for me had I been here at 16. I was part of an online community of middle-aged people when I was 18 and I think I got respect because of my age and that I didn't want to disrupt things. Although it may have helped that I was exceedingly ebullient; moreso than I am here now I've calmed down a bit.

    I feel like you have the right to privacy. If you feel as though disclosing major personal information would make you feel uncomfortable, then not sharing is perfectly fine. I don't mind sharing myself but I don't go out of my way to hide it, I just don't tell it unless someone asks. I just don't see it as having a 'secret'.

    I've been more open here than I have been anywhere (even with friends). But there is something, yes. Nobody knows or has ever known so I wouldn't fancy your chances of an answer if you ask me what it is. Even if I went temporarily insane and told you, you still wouldn't believe it.

    For the most part, no, I don't really try to hide any major parts of my life on here. There are a few things that I generally avoid discussing though. Also, like Dom180 said, I don't think people have the responsibilities or obligations to share those things on here if they don't want to. That is just their choice.

    I'm a bit more into being a Mormon than some people might realize. The missionary and shoving the religion into every conversation I have isn't a very strong trait in me, but I have a bit more dedication to it than even the people that know my IRL realize. Other than the cursing and drinking caffeine, and being among the 15% of social progressives actually within the church, I am actually a pretty good Mormon. Aside from the caffeine thing I easily qualify for entrance into the temple, and my husband holds the higher level priesthood in the church =/

    I generally don't mention it (unless someone asks or it is relevant to the topic, IRL or online) because it is basically like saying "Hey, accuse me of being a bigoted, blinded and idiotic sheep and give me a speech regarding how I am stupid and how *I* need to be more tolerant of others' lifestyle choices all the while ironically bashing me for mine!". After a while, the arguing just lost worth to me as I grew up more and realized that I only have a limited number of fucks I can give per day so I might as well give them to a worthy cause.

      On second thought, I don't like to answer very many of the sex post anymore. I did for a while, months and months ago, but then I thought, this isn't necessary, and virtually stopped for a while. Now rarely do.

      Plus, there were the two months when I pretended to be a man on IIN. I found it stifling not to be able to comment on the female topics. And I've never been a man, so I couldn't comment on the male-centered stories either. It sucked. But even when I was in disguise as a man, my opinions and experiences that I shared were still my own.
