Have you heard of "neknomminate"

So basically NekNomminate is an online drinking game where you down alcohol, usually a pint mixed with lots of different ingrediants. The more crazy the drink, the more respect you get!

You get nominated via Facebook. Someone films themselves making, then downing their drink, and then they nominate 3 people and tag them in the Facebook video. And the cycle continues. If you get nominated and don't do it you're officially a member of "Ass tickling faggots fanclub"

I completed mine Friday, my pint contained

Carlsberg (Beer)
Bulmers (Cider)
Red bull
Lucozade
Jager
Vodka
Egg yolk
Ketchup.

If you've done this I'd be interested to know what you did!

Yes and I've done it 1
Yes i haven't done it 4
No 6
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Heard of it. Refuse to even be a part of it. People have already died because of this "fad" so it really isn't worth it.

I just don't see why people need to look for such a form of false self-validation when you could have respect for yourself in so many other and intrinsically safer ways.

Yeah, it's all over my Facebook News Feed. Saw one really funny one, but it was only funny because the guy in it is a witty person. I don't like the whole thing in general, it's a tad pathetic to me. Especially the ones who literally just down a pint of ale and then act like they've been made to do something bad. They're all sarcastic, like "oh, thanks for the nomination!". It's a pint of ale man, get it down! It's not in anyway noteworthy of worth having made a video about it. Sod off.

I'm sad about the wholesale transferral of life experience into things we now only experience online.

The only one I saw was a South African guy giving a sandwich and a drink to a homeless guy. He nominated other people to do the same - his way of turning the fad around into something really positive.

    What a party-pooper though....

    • That is a million times better than promoting excessive consumption of alcohol. I think it is the other way around.

  • No alcohol for me. Seems like another fad that is going to quickly be reported on the news.

Yep it's all over Facebook, I've never done it. I think people are going a bit too far with it now though.

Yeah, I've never been tagged though. If I was tagged I might do it if it was vegetarian, not too gross and I had all the ingredients (or wanted an excuse to buy some more booze - which I do :P Especially something like Jager, because I've never had it when I'm not already drunk so I don't know what it tastes like). I can see why someone wouldn't do it, and the peer pressure thing is really dumb because it stops it from being fun for everyone.

I don't think it's fair to say the game kills people. A NekNomination is really just a bad dirty pint, which people have been drinking for years as part of drinking games (which are also reliant on peer pressure). I've had dirty pints myself that are worse than some NekNominations. If you say that NekNomination kills people you have to say that all these other, more "traditional" drinking games kill people too. It's much simpler to say that heavy drinking in any context can kill people, and people know the risks they're taking when they choose to drink it irresponsibly.

I feel like by picking on NekNomination specifically the media deliberately takes advantage of the stereotype of young people and social media users as irresponsible, vain, self-absorbed, insecure and dangerous. These news stories are designed to instill an irrational fear of young people and social media, and that's not something I think is right.
