Have you had to cope with a jealous mother or father in law?

This is not limited to those who are married, it could be the mother of your gf or bf.

If you did, please comment on how you dealt with it and how people around you reacted (or not).

If it was something other than jealousy then vote 'other' and tell us about it.

    Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!

I send my husband to visit when he needs to, coz I won't waste a day of my life in her company. I put an end to her nonsense when she rang my home one night to talk rubbish. I gave her what I call the "yes no treatment". That means I was perfectly civil but did not encourage any conversation. When she asked me a question I said yes / no - otherwise I maintained a complete silence.

She doesn't phone my home anymore (or visit) but calls her son on his cell phone :o)

    Worked for me!!!!
    Peace at last!!!

  • My mother-in-law becomes a little obsessed with my husband sometimes, but he's her youngest of three boys and has the most successful career. When we visit, she tries to keep the conversation one-on-one between her and my husband, and she ignores everyone else who's there. She never says anything particularly rude, but her irritation shows all over her face whenever anyone else attempts to join the conversation.

Her behaviour is mild, so I just tolerate it and tease my husband about it (in a playful way) when we get home. He's oblivious to it.

I wouldn't call it jealousy. When it comes to holidays, my husband and I have to figure out the best way to disappoint both sides of the family equally. It's a tricky balance.
