The first time I was a senior in HS. He said "yeah I know, but I like your friend. You think you could hook me up?" I called him a dick. The second time I had the courage to do it was 10 years later, he was shocked and told me that he had a huge crush on me but was worried I would reject him. We ended up dating for a while.
The only girl I said those words to ended up calling me a freak. Needless to say, my self esteem got damaged but I grew as a person in the process, so it wasn't all bad.
Well that person just sounds like a bitch. Sorry if she's like the love of your life or something, but her calling you a freak is rather bitchy.
Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing for a guy I know to say that up front. It's better than never knowing and always wondering "what if." To me, that's the hard part of it all.
I've gotten 5/6 of my boyfriends by just telling them that I liked them and that I wanted to go out... so.. it's worked out fine
Of course, that's not including all the "no's" I've gotten...
