Have you ever taken an antidepressant?

My doctor has just prescribed an antidepressant for me, and I am wondering how they have worked for other people. Have you ever taken an antidepressant? If you have, comments about side effects, and how it worked for you in general will be greatly appreciated.

Took citalopram 20mg for 18mths, 2 yrs. Hugely beneficial. Queasy a lot for the first few weeks, had to work dosage up by quarter of a pill every few days or I was curled in a ball in pain and wanting to die but after that, no side effects - and I react poorly to many drugs so this surprised me. Helped me get my ship sorted and realise I'm not worthless.

Try what your doctor is recommending, but if you feel it is seriously negatively impacting you, get it changed - dose or type - quickly. If it's bearable give it about a month to see if your body just needs time to adapt..

    Good luck.

Yes, I took 12 in the span of 6 years. My doctor was constantly overdosing me on the medication though (I took up to 5x the amount reccomended for being that were double my weight/body mass) so the side effects really messed me up.

On Ability (25mg), I had hallucinations that some Australian guy named Roy would come into my room and curse me out and one day beat my ass in a mental hospital.

I got off of them and I am fine now.

Cipralex - saved my life. GREAT antidepressant... also helps hugely with my anxiety and OCD tendencies.

I haven't. I suggest you spend some time researching whatever anti-depressant you may be taking.

  • Cymbalta. Fucked my head up and took two years after I stopped to stabilize. I will never again.

I had them forced on me. However, I was pleased as I thought these happy pills would turn my life around and make me a different person. They made me feel very paranoid and withdrawn. I thought I was part of a plot to test these drugs and that everyone I knew was scheming to keep me signed up. I felt alone.

The advice on the back said not to discontinue them suddenly. I have a fantastic doctor but, at the stage, I didn't trust him either. So I stopped abruptly after a few weeks. I got better slowly by hard work and pushing myself to do things I didn't want to do.

  • I take Fluoxetine, two pills a day. Honestly though, medications work differently for everyone, some people respond to the treatment and others don't.

The best thing is to allow your doctor to do their job and take the medication and see if it helps. Also do not expect it to work straight away, it takes some time before it actually starts to effect your system. Good luck!

I've been on aderall, something that was shot up my nose, a strange little organ-brown pill. That combo combo gave me a nightmare and the next day, I went to school and thought that the nightmare was "real" and I got really paranoid.

Then a few years later, I was put on an anti-aggression medication. I think it started with a "Z" Zanadrine? I don't think it was Zoloft, though. Anyway, it caused me to hear intensely negative voices, that basically told me to self-harm. I can't write it down, because just thinking about it makes me upset. It took me a few years to finally stop hearing those "voices".

I don't really know much about those medications. They, were forced on me and I don't really know exactly what they were for. I take one for anxiety, but I don't know if it would be considered a anti-depressant:/
