Dude this is one of the most beautiful examples of prose in the English language. Nabokov is a genius. Sure the subject matter is a bit hard at times, but this book is most certainly worth reading.
Reading this book does not make you a pedophile or disgusting, it makes you an enthusiast of real literature.
I started reading Lolita in the Summer, and I never got to finish it (I lost it) but what I did read kept me captivated and was wonderful.
People don't understand how comic and quirky this book is, they hear the plot and don't give it a chance. Thus not getting the underlying meaning.
Is this the one about the pedo? Presumably the OP has read it, and is trying to convince him/herself that reading it doesn't make you a pedo.
Also, what is the point of this poll? At least try to discuss something.
No, OP, I haven't. Seriously get help. This is disgusting on so many levels.
And don't pretend for one second I don't know you are.
Even I don't know who I am!
And what's so disgusting about reading a book? People who can be so distracted by the books controversial subject matter that they cannot see what a masterpiece it is really make me wonder.
And you're not Valkeer. You're an impostor. I know it's really MissSorel. Only she would make such a terse, trite response to something like this.
did it? i personally think Jeremy irons is rather attractive.
even more now that he's older.
He's what I imagine Hold in the Ranger's Apprentice series to look like (like how he looked in Eragon)
He sure is, and I usually like him.
But for some reason, he didn't seem to be able to capture the characters brutal intellect, and the overall subtle humor of the book seemed largely lost as well.
it's possible they "tamed" it a little just to get it released. After all the girl playing Lolita was only 15 at the time.
In fact, according to IMDB because of her age, during her scenes with Jeremy Irons there was a pillow between their laps.
the scary thing is that they original had dustin hoffman cast. I'm sorry but I can't picture "Rainman" as Humbert.
Fuck this shit. Gosh what's wrong with the world, many men who are presumed respectable actually hide disturbing paedophilic tendencies in them
Yeah it was a great book. It's a testament to the author Nabokov's linguistic skill that HH, a demented and wretched creature, could garner so much sympathy in proportion to the terrible crimes of pedophilia and rape and incest he committed.
Personally I don't like the book I read it all the way throu but it was a little to weird for me. To me it just depends if you want to read it it should not be a question if others like it its all up to you some of it was really good I will say but I did not like it enufe to purchase it. Have your own taste on life don't not like something just cuz some one does not like it if we all did then life would be really boring. Have a wonderful day!
