Halo: Combat Evolved ( 2001 ). The original Halo game is pretty much overshadowed by it's successor, sadly. In my opinion, the original game had easily the best campaign in the entire franchise.

    Halo 3 is roughly where I say the franchise peaked.

      Looking solely at the story and campaign, the original is the best. If we're looking at multiplayer, I might go with either Halo 2 or 3. Halo 2's campaign is inferior to both CE and 3 though, so it's probably my least favorite of those.
