When this happens, you know you've spent too much time online. I never have, although I imagine that it is great fun, it is certainly fun when someone else reveals an IIN crush!

I met my husband online, and our 3 year anniversary will be in April.

Not all internet romances/infatuations are bad. I know that a lot of them either don't last or turn up bad because of trust issues. You have to be mature enough to step back and think about it: are you in love or just infatuated? There's a BIG difference between the two.

When I met my husband online (via a VIDEO GAME of all things!), I was 17--young and in love and blah blah. My mother said it was only an infatuation and that I should just move on. However, something just told me that my husband and I were supposed to be together.

So, we met in person after about 6-8 months of knowing each other (I lived in N. Carolina and he lived in Florida). After that first date, we both knew that we had something special. We got married once we were able to see each other every month, and we couldn't be happier (I was 19 and he was 24 at the time of our marriage).

Falling in love with someone you can't see in person can be tough. You don't know what they're really like in person, and when the news show stories of people getting raped and murdered from meeting people over the internet, its normal to have your doubts.

Even if you decide that its true love, the distance becomes even more stressful because you can never hold them or kiss them after they've had a bad day, you can't hold their hand or go to see a movie with them. all the normal things that "normal couples" do become impossible if the distance is too great.

The stress can lead to depression and anger, of which I have had experience. There were days when my husband would call me and I would snap at him for no reason because of the frustration of not being able to be with him whenever I wanted. If I had not been mature enough, the relationship would have died because of me.

You just have to think rationally--with your head and not your heart for a moment, as my husband says to me. You might just have to meet this person face-to-face in order to know for sure if these feelings are of love or just infatuation/lust.

A lot of the time yes, it's so easy to start to like someone online. Being online brings out the best in your personality as the person is not seeing you face to face.

i have and currently do. I very much fancy someone for his personality however its extremely hard to know whether someone is telling you the truth or not, that's probably the only downside to it all.

Just remember - anyone can pretend to be anything over the Internet. This aspect of the unknown, or the best features being presented, makes anyone look "better" than someone who is "real" with real faults just like all humans do. Know that it is more fantasy than reality, especially if it is still infatuation. Get to know the person better, and if the feelings are real and based on reality, someday you'll meet IRL. If it's not, they will either fade away or when one person offers to meet IRL, the other will refuse, because they either don't want to give up the fantasy, or there are things they have been lying about the whole time to keep it up. That being said, if it is real, it will turn into something real. I have many friends who found their love online and eventually married them.

A few times. Some just for cam sex. I've met some IRL. They are all just normal girls. However my current GF I met online and we've been together for 5 years and counting (shes not mental).

I've had a phone crush before. Long story... I suppose it's a similar sort of thing. There's something likable there and then your imagination kicks in and supplies some imagery to go with the little that's known of the person. The mind doesn't like unknowns and clutches at straws to make something up. No wonder, the way we communicate now is very unnatural to the way we evolved and not something we've fully adapted to.

  • Not really a romantic infatuation, just a regular old infatuation.

I have a penpal that I think is the absolute SHIT! I've never met them in person, but I feel like they are a true kindred spirit and it makes my day every time I receive another email from them.

When all I have to go on is text (no photos or videos), it makes me value what is being written all the more. I read the emails several times over to savor what is written, to chew it over in my mind. Then I write back the next time I have a moment where I can devote 100% of my attention into it, which doesn't happen often.

I know it's not a conventional relationship, but I'm not a very conventional person, so I don't really care if it's "normal" or not. I value all of my relationships with other people, not just the ones that are face-to-face.
