Have you ever had a newspaper article written about you?

I am curious about your experience with a newspaper piece about yourself, mainly the overall subject or tone-was it a negative subject (you were arrested, fired or accused, for example), or a positive subject? Also, how accurate was the reportng?

Were you misquoted or misrepresented?

I'm talking about PURPOSELY misleading, incomplete or incorrect information, not honest or innocent mistakes like misspellings or harmless mix-ups.

Well it was more of a blurb than an article but it was positive and factual.

They called it "Hometown reporting" for the military.

I was in the newspaper when I was born. Everything was factual except the spelling of my brother's name "Coady". Whores.

  • I was in a front page news article with my mother and little brother, I was a child at the time. I was also on a not so popular news paper but one of the local newspapers I wasnt called by name because they didnt/dont know it was me who done it. It wasnt front page though. I have had quite a few people in my family on the newspaper etc one of the people was my great great uncle Samuel Mckay also known as Dandy Mckay he was pretty infamous and his arrest almost forced the news of president kennedy's election off of the front page and his arrest on front page (almost).

Yes, to me and a couple articles about people/happenings that I had direct knowledge of, and BOY were the articles full of errors and outright made up stuff. And they don't even care!! Ever notice how small and hidden the "Corrections" section is....IF you've been able to ever find it, and IF they acknowledge their errors, that is!! Now I don't really put much stock in ANY of the local stories anyway, positive or negative.

Yes, and they even got my name wrong too! It was terrible, and a little embarrassing.

A national newspaper interviewed a friend of mine when she was a student for a supposedly serious piece about young people's sexuality. When it went to print, including her name and photograph, the whole thing was a lie from start to finish about her hosting bondage parties and sleeping with twenty pensioners in one evening.

Don't trust newspapers to tell the truth.

  • I was in a newspaper article when I appeared in a Tom and Jerry stage show (I played Jerry) at my school. It raised a hell of a lot of money and all of the actors got mentions, and my name was spelt correctly. Still have it filed away somewhere up in my bedroom.

Yep. They got my name, my employment, and pretty much everything else wrong. The only think they got right was my address.
