Yes, I have. I've gone to the ER with fake injuries, real injuries that I'd caused myself, and with narcotic withdrawal hoping to get some pity.

It sounds horrible and it is. Addiction is a terrible disease that rots away all your hopes and dreams and turns you into a monster that will do all the things you swore you'd never do.

Eventually, though, you'll get flagged in the hospital's computer as a "drug-seeker" (as I was) and it'll really suck when you've got an actual injury and actual pain and no doctor will give you a damn thing because they're not going to risk their medical licences based on the word of a junkie.

BTW, I really only did this when withdrawal set in... I never did it to get high, although it doesn't make me look any better.

Thank God I've been clean for over a year now! I'd never go back to that kind of desperation.

    • I appreciate your honesty, your answer was beautiful. I WAS you. You are speaking the truth. I got "red flagged' Too...and right after that I got a real bad injury (accident) and got treated like total shit when I realy did need help.

Like you, I just went when I had withdrawals. I took copious amounts of oxycontin, oxycodone, morphine....all prescribed.....but I'd take a few too many sometimess and that's how that goes. I'd usually have a week to 10 days of hell before I could refill my script.

I got over it a long time ago and man am I glad. Life is so much better.

Sad thing is, is I have such a bad back injury that I feel someties like I need to be back on meds, but I 'mm trying so hard to avoid it. So far, so good, it's been well over a year.

  • My husband is an ER doctor and most of the people he sees could be classified as "drug-seekers" because people tend to have the mentality that only prescription drugs can solve their medical problems. He also sees a lot of people seeking narcotics as well.

It's ridiculous that pharmaceutical companies advertise their products to the public. Especially when average people do not have the knowledge and training to decide for themselves which prescription drugs are suitable for them. Then average people go to the doctor and start demanding drugs that they've seen in advertisements and get pissed off when the doctor tells them that it's not an appropriate medication for them.

    • I agree, I don't think it's appropriate for drugs to be advertised to the general public.

No, I think it sucks going there for a real problem and getting treated like you're only there for drugs.

FUCK all you assholes that go to the er to get high! YOU are the fucking reason I can't get the meds I need when I go to the hospital. I literally had to drive to Mexico after 3 months of ER visits just to get a bottle of 60 Tylenol 3s for my migraines because all the doctors think when they see a 25 year old in the ER complaining of pain with no outward signs, is: "here's another drug addict looking for an easy high". The community clinic here doesn't even prescribe narcotics because of fuck tards like all of you abusing the system.

I am guilty of this. Have done it numerous times over the years and again recently after I had blood in my urine due to a kidney stone. No pain, mind you, but a good reason to go and get percocets. I have chronic problem with stones which when I first started getting them did cause real pain but somehow I've gotten a tolerance to the pain and I just use the stones to get narcotics. Blood in the urine, a cat scan, and voila- Those are the ingredients for a script. But not always, it depends on the doctor. A few days this bitch MD ordered a cath-urine for a sterile sample. No way! I was about to walk out when the nurse came in and I let him do it like an idiot. My gut feeling was that this doc wasn't going to refill my percs even with all the evidence in the world that I needed them. What I needed was a script for the pain that little snaky bastard catheter caused me. It burned and stung when I pissed for a day and a half. It's always a gamble. It's a sucky feeling when you spend four to five hours in the ER and come away empty-handed or with 30 800mg ibuprofen. I was determined not to continue to do this anymore but I gave in to temptation when I saw that blood in my urine, knowing that this symptom was a guaranteed script.
5:45 am and thinking about going early in the morning when it's not busy but no. STOP. I just need to be patient because soon I may be seeing a doctor who can prescribe Suboxone and I won't have to worry about the damn ER.

ER? As in EMERGENCY ROOM? Why would you go there just to get drugs?

I just go to the normal GP surgery and that's only when I really need to. I haven't been to the doctors in 5 years.

    • Good luck nowadays, you'd essentially have to break a bone to get anyhting, and even then they give you a hassle. I broke my collarbone last year and NOTHING. I got yelled at. Of course it was New Years Eve...but I wasn't drunk or anything. It was a stupid accident. Embarassing even.

Pathetic. Our health care system has enough problems without adding this to the mess.
