Have you ever been drunk at work?

Have you ever drank alcohol on the job, to a point where you were definitely impaired? Or show up to work drunk?

Comments please!! What kind of work, did you get caught, get fired for it, how did you manage to do it, were you the only one doing it, any close calls, any terrible accidents due to it?

Never, ever. 62

Being drunk at work is a dereliction of duty. It's not what employers pay us for. It's effectively stealing because we get paid despite doing no useful work.

    And, yeah. I have.

Depends what I'm doing. Some things I do better but the kind of things where I have to really concentrate hard on more than one thing at work, I can't do it. All my friends drink at lunch but I just have orange juice because even half a pint would write the afternoon off.

One time I got drunk on gin at lunch, and i was working in a call centre, and the supervisor came up to me as soon as I sat down and said he was grading a call. He listened to the call and said it was an amazing call and that he needs me to write some answers to questions for training material for the next training class.

I used to close at a bagel shop 6 days a week, and for several months I would drink a bottle of wine at work about 4 of those 6 days after the manager left for the day (and pick up another bottle for the underage girl who also closed with me).. and I always bought it from an independent liquor store where the dude working was also drinking on the job, it was our own little private joke lol

Alcohol is the only way that I can deal with the emotional strains that my workplace imposes on me.

  • Yes, I usher football games and I drink there all the time or show up drunk. My boss probably isn't so happy but she doesn't seem to care. At the other job I have only showed up to work drunk once. I got hurt and that sobered me up fast.

I had an actual normal job when I graduated college, and believe it or not, the guys who worked there told me about how they used to get shit-faced at work....they used to stuff their beer cans into this wall, which I saw with my own eyes....

I did a couple of times, but it was just because we'd just had a pre-holiday party on a Friday and we were just watching the phones until we left early at 3pm.

I couldn't even feel my face. I just sat in my cube and web-surfed until I sobered up; not wanting to score a devastating DUI trying to get home early.

If you don't break the law sometimes... you will never feel the satisfaction of living your own way... and neither the punishment it might carry... it is a double-edged sword... freedom or stability? your call!

No never. I'm not saying I'm a saint far from it, I am very friendly with the ale. I'll hold my hands up, but alcohol and work just do not mix well. It's all very well being drunk at the time but imagine having to face your boss the next day, no I think that would be disrespectful not only to yourself but also to thise around you. It's called work for a reason xx

  • Once I took some rum and coke into work to drink throughout the day. It was a low point of my life. Nowadays I can't stand to have anything whilst at work, say at lunch, it makes the afternoon horrific. I've been in hungover say.. oh I don't know about 50 times in seven years. I swear I won't do it to myself ever again each time but it still happens. Once I was late for work as I slept in. I woke up with blood on my face and was still drunk 'til 5pm. My boss was cool. I never lost my job.

I've been caught,i've been fired,i've quit while been drunk at least 10 times altogether, doing restaurant kitchenwork(i.e food preparation, dishwasher, etc.i've NEVER ever ever worked fast food though,i would likely would have killed somebody if i did...i've had my chances being promoted to managerial status, though i always fucked them up though...they just put up with me because i was always such a good worker until some kind of bullshit came up with other coworkers in general.

Well, considering I feel like Sean Combs every time I wake up for the day, what else is a girl like me to do?

I haven't, but I've definitely worked at places where it's happened.

I used to work in a restaurant. There was one day on Christmas Eve (I heard about this, but I wasn't there) when most of the kitchen staff got drunk on the job (including the kitchen manager!). Would have been hilarious to see. A lot of kitchen staff were also stoned while they worked on a regular bases. Not myself, though.

Yes. Every day I worked outside my home. But, at points I was an independant contractor and could do as I wished, and other times I was a bartender and it was sorta OK.

Yes. But each time, it was from drinking the night before. It didn't affect my work at all.
What I tried to avoid was having a hangover while at work. I don't get them but there's always that chance....

Oh I had the worst hangover ever once when I worked as a hotel maid while in college. Oh, I puked in every single room I went in to clean. That was the worst day ever....I had drank this crap called 99 blackberries the night before.

And you really made more work for yourself, huh?

OMG, if I was making this shit up I'd paint myself in a much better light, I'd imagine. I have no imagination for lies! No, it's true, I went over to this guy's house that I had a crush on, he was in my class-I was the only girl in the class-and I liked Blackhaus liquor at the time. Well-the liquor store I went to beforehand didn't have Blackhaus and the clerk told me 99 Blackberries is the same thing...well no, it isn't. I shudder every time I see that crap. Yeah, it was a Friday night and I worked on weekend mornings so it was a Saturday morning, oh I was dying.

Well I'm glad you're honest. It's rather entertaining to hear your stories.

Yeah, I don't know why I liked this guy so much. And that night, he had his best friend there, who happens to be a girl, and it was so awkward. What's even more awkward was he used to work with my current husband for a while....(all that happened before I even met my husband)-well, my husband got this job and he mentioned a guy at his work who sounded awful familiar. Yeah, it was HIM. So...weird. But somehow it was OK.

After I turned in my two weeks notice at my last job a few coworkers took me to lunch. I ended up drinking quite a bit. I didn't see any harm as I had already quit anyway. What an interesting afternoon...

I did once and figured out it's not a good idea since I'm responsible for filling people's prescriptions. Probably good to make sure I get the right medication in the right bottle. =(
