Has anyone had a near death experience?

I think I had one the other night. I was eating something with vegetables and a portion of bay leaf got stuck in my throat. It was so scary I'm still shaken but everything is ok now. It makes you think how easy it would be to die. Has anything happened like this to others and did it change them in any way?

One day I was high on shrooms with my friend. She was also high on them and because we had no shroom-sitter this is why our near-death experience happened. After leaving a beach at 12am we decided to walk bus-stop by stop since we didn't feel like standing/waiting for the bus. 1-2 cars drove by every 5-10 minutes so the road was rather empty... I remember thinking to myself how safe it had felt, although to ensure 100% safety, I must walk straight the WHOLE time to stay on the sidewalk! So I did. Looking at everything but the sidewalk, I was unaware of the sidewalk curving up ahead into a highway entrance. Of course, I wouldn't have been walking straight if I walked into a highway entrance! But that was not the case. We somehow walked straight into the road instead. We didn't realize it until our 8th shroom sense kicked in and I felt a slight warmth from the head-lights on my back.... headlights?... OH SHIT! *Grabs friend by the arm as she grabs mine as we take in realization that we were no longer on the sidewalk and run towards the sidewalk NOW 2 meters away from us* Although we were incapable of actually getting on the sidewalk because of the fences blocking the way, we were 1-3 seconds away from nearly ended up getting ran over by 20 cars that were street racing at the same unconvenient time we were on the road... At least our timing wasn't!

I've had 2 near death experiences - almost drowned in the ocean when i was 29 and then about 2 years ago i fell asleep at the wheel doing 80 mph on the highway after a weekend of hiking and partying with friends.

the last one really shook me. Instead of being relieved i was alive, for a few days i actually felt as if i had died and was a ghost. Very weird and depressing.

A pile of plywood would have dropped on me. But I joined a dojo regularly for 4 years already so that I kicked the shits off me. So I didn't die. I could have died unless I knew judo.

In 3rd grade I tied my belt to the monkey bars because I wanted to be a possem. A couple of seconds later I fell onto the ground on my back so hard and died for a couple of seconds. Then I came back to life and my teacher took me to the nurse as I was crying.

During my early teens I was knocked unconscious several times. A few friends and I used to go to a disused quarry, I was standing on the edge when the portion I was on collapsed, I managed to jump to safety before it fell but I haven't been back there and I don't plan to. When I was 12 I fell nearly 25ft out of a tree and I have a scar that runs down the side of my stomach from that incident. 7 years later I now go downhill cycling which to my knowledge, together with tombstoning and base jumping is one of the most dangerous sports out there. Adrenaline is definitely worth risking life and limb, literally, I've broken 16 bones to date and dislocated my shoulder 3 times, but the feeling of flying down a mountain on something with two wheels and no engine is immense!

When I was five years old I had an asthma attack and I had to be put on a respirator to continue to breath. My asthma has been rarely an issue anymore but can be troublesome when the summer comes on smoggy days.

Yea just a few months ago, I was very stressed out due to uni, job and family problems....and started to cross the road without looking (really distracted thinking about things in my mind)....a large car goes past at more than 70mph (boy racer) touching my jacket....and i only notice as it touches and goes past me.... literally a few cms further and I would most likely be dead or seriously injured.

The irony is that I'm actually a very safe pedestrian usually...I always check both sides several times.....and now even more so than before, especially since I now moved to Essex, lol :)

When I was 16, I thought it be funny too jump on top of my friends car after we filmed at scary movie. So while most of them were in the car, I jumped on the side and hung on to the ski rack. While I thought I would scare them, they drove off not knowing I was on the side of the car. They were speeding, going about 60 miles per hour. I was banging on the window for dear life. I still remember the wind blowing through my hair and not knowing if I should jump off or WHEN to jump off. Eventually they stopped short, I flew off. Fortunately, my leg hit the ground first preventing my head not to crack open on the road. How I walked away from that incident, I will never know.

I've had a few. One was when I flew off my quad down a 15ft hill in west virginia. I ended up landing on a bunch of rocks and breaking the front axle on the quad but never broke any bones just a big blood-clot and lost the feeling in my left leg hip area. It's still there too slowly decreasing in size over the 4 years. Now I can't stand on top of a ladder without freaking out so bad it causes me to fall from nervous shakes, I'd lose my grip.

That reminds me of my near death experience. I was skateboarding down a hill because I was brave too. This happened Christmas Eve so most people were at home. Anyway, halfway down the hill my board hit a pebble or something so my back foot fell of my board, making me do an extremely painful split before falling off and violently rolling the rest of the way down the hill. I passed out and regained consciousness in a hospital. Apparently some guy found me bleeding on the street. I lost a lot of blood and broke some bones too. The doctor said I would have died had he found me a 30 minutes later. Best Christmas ever. I still skate now but I never go anywhere near hills and I always go back home before the sun goes down.

When I was ten a car hit me when I was crossing the street in front of my house, an SUV going 50-60mph. My pelvic bone fractured and I had a huge gash on the back of my head. The doctors said I should have either died or been paralized, but instead I recovered pretty fast, released from the hospital in two months using a walker to move and back to walk without it in four.

Oh, yeah-there was that time I was sitting on the couch with a pistol in my hand and the cops came bursting in with guns drawn on me...but I didn't have time to realize the severity of the situation untill it was already over.

Wow, my life is kinda strange.

  • When I was 9 my dad took the airbags out of our car.

Two days later I was in a car wreck that gave me a gash on my forehead but I would have been decapitated if he had put it off until the weekend.

I got my arm trapped in the rail of a swimming pool at such an angle that I couldn't get my head above the surface of the water. It was only 90 seconds, but 90 seconds a long time when you're not expecting to suddenly have to hold your breath.

It didn't really change the way I live my life. Although it occurs to me that I don't swim any more. And I used to love to swim.

Oh, that reminds me of this time I was walking my horse on her lead back to the pasture. Somehow she stepped on my foot, but not straight down on the top of my foot, she managed to step on the outside side of it, if you can imagine what I'm describing. So my foot is pinned in a terribly painful way under a 1,000 lb + horse and it's also causing an extreme amount of twisting and pain in my knee from the angle.

I'm screaming at the stupid horse, waving my arms at her to try to scare her away, hitting her with the lead, pushing on her as much as I could in that position....and she WILL NOT move!! I was all alone and it was freezing outside, I didn't know how long I'd be there!!

I couldn't believe it!! Especially since this horse was NOT the type to stnad still at ANY time if she thought she could get away!! At the moment, I really had no idea what the hell to do, I was doing everything I could think of. luckily a little while later my dad came around the side of the barn and saw me and came and helped me.

Being stuck in a really, really bad spot is soooo scary!!

Now that I think about it I've had quite a few deadly run-in's with horses and cows as a kid!

I OD'd on heavy opiates more than once. It was scary, it was like my body was dead and paralyzed but my mind was awake and slowly being buried alive untill everything went black. I don't know what happened, I didn't recieve medical help (I was alone), I guess I just sort of fell asleep and woke up later on and i was OK. It was a very panicky feeling, I knew I was about to die and my mind was fighting. I've passed out plenty of times from dope so I know that feeling well, this feeling was completely different, I WAS dying.
