Has anyone experienced these side effects from general anesthesia?

Had my first surgery one week ago and I am experiencing what I think are effecst from general anesthesia. Has anyone experienced sounds echoing in their head, difficulting breathing or forgetting to breathe, dizziness, or being light headed, or just not feeling right as before (like something is not right mentally)?

Breathing is autonomous. You cannot 'forget' to do it, which means you're actively doing it. Surgery can bring on depression and anxiety, which would explain not feeling quite right and most of the other symptoms. Generally these heal with the wound, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor about it.

The post-op nurses would wake me up and tell me I wasn't breathing. So they were constantly waking me up and shouting at me to breathe, because I would fall back asleep and quit breathing. I guess the anesthesia really hit me good to the point where my brain couldn't tell me to continue breathing. The surgeon also said I had stopped breathing several times during the surgery.

Sorry for the late respond. Computer was getting fixed. I also have fear having surgeries. After committing I still wanted to back out of it. I was mentally questioning myself up until surgery if I should go ahead and do it. Once I was taken into the surgery room, everything and everybody was going so fast. I was under anesthesia within the first 3 minutes after transferring onto the bed. I was sick. sick. sick. immediately after coming out of the anesthetic. I believe it is from the Morphine I was receiving for pain. Doctor prescribed something else afterwards I was fine within hours. My surgery was a hysterectomy.

      • Wow.. and what were your reasons for having that done? Is it really as frightening as we make it out to be? Given that you're unconscious and then awake again after it?

Is it like falling asleep? Do you notice yourself going out?

I've had surgery in the past and I don't remember any side effects of that form..I'm having surgery tomorrow morning as well. I'll be feeling like shit, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to let you know if I have those side effects.

    Go to your doctor.
