Has anyone ever ruined a certain song for you?

Now you think of them every time the song comes on.

Now you can't even listen to the song anymore.

You finally just delete it from your playlist and give up on trying to appreciate it the way you used to.

    • Well, that isn't really what I was talking about. I really meant a particular person who ruins a song you liked, for whatever reason, as opposed to getting burnt out on your own by hearing it on the radio or something.

There was this girl I used to like and we hung out regularly. We liked the same type of music, and we often even sang along to certain songs. It was fun. Now it is different. We don't see each other anymore, and every time one of those songs comes on I can't help but think about her. A couple of them she ruined completely for me; I can't even listen to them anymore.

Another example is my dad. There are a few songs that I like and have been listening to for years and when he hears them, he always starts getting obsessed. He starts singing along and talking about them. I'm just like this is MY song okay. Get your own taste in music, or at least don't obsess over theses few songs so bad that you're making me sick of them.

Anyway, sorry about all that text. I guess I needed a rant.

Yeah, these two songs that two of my exes dedicated to me. For one of them, I said fuck it and still listen to it, as for the other, it was a cheesy old country song, and I don't listen to it anymore. I'm more of a fan of Southern rock anyway. Real country's not really my kinda music anyway.

When I look up lyrics to a Electronic song that I can't fully understand, it usually ruins it for me. For the most part, vocals in most genres of Electronic music are just utter nonsense.

TV ads have ruined quite a few songs for me if they're overplayed or featured in an ad for a brand I don't really like.

Yes, I have actually ruined a song for myself. A friend and I were volunteered for karaoke against our will. We really didn't want to do it and so sabotaged our own efforts by doing it in a very strong South African accent.

John Lennon's "Imagine" will never sound the same again.

In Grade 10 someone repeatedly played Justin Bieber's Baby over and over again.
That was when I became a JB hater.

Yes.. I tend to mentally assicoate songs to people or stories, and then when things turn on me.. well, it's happened more than once.

    • It's pretty sad isn't it. I have lost the admiration of several great songs because of this...

    Hiya,

No. if I’m put off a song that easily I probably never really liked it in the first place.

Sometimes learning the meanings of songs ruins them for me. The biggest example of this was the song "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty. I used to get all emotional about it and it was "my song" because I thought it was about living with mental illnesses. Then I watched Pop-Up Video on VH1 and learned the true meaning: it's actually about drugs. Now it has completely lost its impact on me and I can't listen to it the same way again.

Magic by B.O.B. I don't like the song but it's everywhere. It is a soundtrack for my embarrassing memories.

Sort of. I used to like an unsigned band, sort of had a crush on the lead guy but he started to be mean. So I deleted the whole album from my iTunes because I can't listen to it the same anymore.

Another guy who did me wrong got me into Bayside, but my love for them is so deep that I didn't let that ruin it. :)
