Has anyone ever had lice for a long period of time?

If so, what treatments did you use that got rid of the problem?

I've had lice for about over 3 or 4 months. My little sister is in elementary school, so she frequently gets it. Then, I end up getting it.

But, this last time I've had it for the longest time I've ever had it before. I've tried all the types of shampoos and gels that simply WILL NOT work. I've reached the point where I'm tempted to do anything BUT cut my hair. I will NOT cut my hair.

I need advice for this, if you've experienced this before. And what treatments you've used for this problem.

There's nothing icky or wrong with you. Lice are tenacious little bastards. The mayo advice is awesome. Also put pillows and upholstery pillows in garbage bags, like advised, It really works. I've worked in Elementary School, and your story is not unusual, but it is a severe drag. Grease up with mayo every night until the little @!#$@#s die! Make sure your sis does it too.

i used to get it all the time when i was little, try dyeing you hair which kills all the bugs then get one of those nit brushes and comb out all the nits. wash your Bedding clothes ect. And also try Vinegar, i know.. it smells bad but just soak it into you hair, put a bag over your hair, & wear it over night. & wear your hair up all the time. in a tight pony tail.
    Good Luck.

Hair dye gets rid of them really well, with the side effect of different hair colour. Or use a nit comb....its re-useable, cheap, and very effective

My daughter had them a few times a few years ago and I tried everything to get rid of them!! I was about to shave her hair off and had one last thought. Bug spray, I sprayed it all over careful not to get it into her face and it's the only thing I found that truly killed them. Disinfect everything like the others have said and comb comb comb until (hopefully) they are all gone. Fly spray probably isn't the best thing for scalps but I'd already tried every shampoo, conditioner, mayonnaise, spray there was for lice and spent literally hundreds of dollars when all I needed was a $4 can of bug spray. Goodluck

    • What type of bug spray was it? Like OFF! Brand spray that kills mosquitos and other bugs like that? I would have thought it could poison you through the scalp since it's chemicals in the spray.

Or you could use the mediated stuff intended to kill lice haha. Seriously, use it, throw away pillows, brushes etc. Everything else ...clothes, bedding, etc MUST be washed in the hottest water possible. They also sell spray for your furniture and such.

Once they're gone, apparently rubbing a few drops of tea tree oil into your hair after washing it keeps them away.

Luneygrls right you have to disinfect everything in your house, or they'll just keep coming back. So you need to wash evrything that can be washed, put everything that can't be washed in plastic bags, and then there are special sprays that you can use on you furniture. And then of course everyone in your family that could possibly have them needs to wash there hair with the lice shampoo.

Olive oil. Do it over the kitchen sink. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes. Comb out your hair with a lice comb. It would be better if your mom or someone did this for you so they could see what's going on. It washes out pretty good to. This will completely get rid of them, however, if the whole house isn't taken care of it will be useless. You have to disinfect everything and it is a pain in the ass. One of my kids came home with it.

Don't waste your time with shampoos. Beleive it or not, keeping hair clean makes it easier for lice to live on. If you don't wash your hair for a few days the lice have trouble hanging on and they will fall off. True story, try it.

my daughter kept getting lice from kids on her bus what worked was putting vasaline all over her head, it suficates the lice. only problem with it is its hard to wash out of your hair, using dish soap helps get it out. also using shampoo with tea tree oil in it or u can add tea tree oil yourself to the shampoo so they dont come back.
