Has anyone else felt like this?

I'm a mother of 3 children. I had my youngest when I was 18 years old, my second at 22 and my last at 25. I have decided that I don't want anymore children, it's just becoming quite pricey and I wouldn't want to jeopardize my children in anyway specially with the rising prices. Anyhow, I'm going to get my tubes tied. This would only be my third operation ever in my life.

I had my tonsils out when I was 5 and don't remember it, then I had a c-section for my first daughter. I had the epidural in so I was awake. I'm just really affraid of this one. Specially being put out with the anesthetic. I've heard so many horror stories about it that I begin to panic. The surgery is booked for 3 weeks from now. Anyone else ever felt like this and if so, how did you manage the fear? Is it normal to be worried?

The thing about those Anesthesia horror stories is that if anyone has a bad experience, its immediately in the news. Much like a plane crash. One crash, and you never hear the end of it, while 200,000 flights go on every day worldwide without a problem... For every 10 million surgeries, someone is awake during it, and I think now its an actual condition, and they test you for it before you go under. I would say its normal to be a bit apprehensive, but to have the fear consume you is not normal...

  • IUDs are full of shit. They move around, imbed in the uterus, cause abdominal pain and spotting, the strings are annoying, they make you prone to infections and things like pelvic inflammatory disease and you need to constantly go for check ups. I think the surgery will be a piece of cake as far as healing goes, compared to your C section cut. I want a hysterectomy after I've had kids and I'm scaring myself already about the cut and I don't even have kids yet! Don't worry about it, if you've had a c section you can survive anythin :P you seem like a tough cookie

Opt for an iud instead, such as mirena. It is over 99% effective, lasts 5 years, costs much less than a tubal ligation, and no surgery needed. Your obgyn can insert it during an office visit.

  • It is normal to be worried but i dont think its really that serious as a histerectomy or child birth. I wouldn't be too worried.
