Has anybody here attended a self help/ 12 step program?

Are there any members here that have attended or currently attend any self help/12 step programs? Some of them are A.A.( alcoholics anonymous), N.A.(narcotics anonymous), gamblers A., over eaters, sex, etc. I think i've spotted the lingo in some people's post.

count me in. I think they involve letting god take care of your problems or something like that, right?
Well, i don't believe in any higher power, so that would make it kind of hard to work with me.

I attended a number of A.A meetings because my mother had some serious drinking issues, to the point of putting her life in danger. She was embarrassed to admit that she had a problem and she was too scared to go to the meetings alone. So I attended them with her for almost a year before she felt comfortable enough to go by herself!

No and knowing me if I did have a problem I'd either keep it to myself or confide in someone other than a group or a professional.

As a matter of fact, I have. I've attended a total of one N.A. meeting and gotten myself the white keychain. Long time ago. :)

I don't mind. Just to be clear, what's the focus of your poll? The narcotics/addiction in itself or the 12-step as a resource to overcome one?

        • A little of both. The story of how you found the rooms, the impression, and the cause. It sounds like it was not for you though.

  • I was in a psychiatric hospital for three months, and that helped me quit pot because they wouldn't let me out to get any!
