Haning on to objects

I hang onto objects that although I never see or use, just cant bare to throw away. I am not sure why, there is this book that my friend who i dont see anymore gave to me when i was about 6. I dont read it ever but it comforts me to know it is in the back of my closet at home. Does anyone else do this, is it normal?

Oh yeah. Total nostalgia. I do this all the time.

Probably not normal. I can understand keeping the book for the sentimental value but do most of these "objects" have sentimental value?

You may be excessively hoarding things which is a form of obsessive compulsive disorder.
What does your house look like? Do you have a room or rooms full of stuff that you will never use but cannot force yourself to throw away? Do you find yourself making excuses why you shouldn't get rid of things like maybe some day they might come in handy or someone else might need them? If so get help. Learn to let go or it will only get worse. Plus, it's a little embarassing if you ask me.

    • I agree. Keeping a few things for nostalgia or whatever is OK. We all have stuff we are not ready to let go of - or just have not gotten around to dealing with.

But hoarding lots of stuff isn't OK - can be unsafe & a sign that something is not too well in the emotional department & help is required.

Yes it is! my cousin who moved somewhere pretty far and who i rarely get to see, gave me a ps2 [he had 2] when i was like 4 and i still have it and am still using it and taking good care of it and i cherish it ^_^ [my cousin is the only person close to me and is very much like me] i also have friends that cherish stuff given from someone close to them.
