Handshake confusion

Whenever I go to shake hands with anyone I never know what their going to do anymore. I usually go for the good old fashioned firm handshake but then they go to fistbumps and curled fingers. Its annoying how our culture has caused this confusion. Theres been many times where before the handshake we will switch hand positions multiple times before actually having matching hand positions. It kind of makes things awkward but I usually just laugh off how ridiculous our culture has become.

I prefer the old fashioned shake 51

I'm a germaphobe and don't shake 5

    I prefer the old fashioned handshake. I was meeting the owner of a store once and I went to give him an old fashioned, but then he went for the gangsta shake. i was like what? i thought you were supposed to be a professional.

    I don't offer hand shakes or fist pumps. I take what's offered to me lol Most of my friends are huggers.

    I know how you feel. They also have the hugging hand shake. When they shake your hand but it turns into a hug.

        It is slightly awkward. Since normally when someone wants a hug I just hug them. If someone wants a shake I do that. Even more so when it is people you just met. So you are really not expecting it.

    If I have to shake hands, I prefer a friendly shake. I'm not very fond of formal handshakes because for some reason, all of the people I've ever had formal handshakes with (mostly men) made the experience hurt like hell. I don't like these "new and hip" handshakes. I find them so confusing and silly. I had acquaintances to try that with me and it was so awkward because I was going to give them a regular handshake and then I got confused because it took me by surprise... Another aspect is the germs. When I was a kid I was very squeamish to shake hands with people, especially strangers, and to some extent the internet has made me question what "substances" have been on other peoples hands. O_0
