Guys: you think you've found your dream girl...

You guys met at some random event, public instance, what have you. You have gone on more than just a few dates and you now hang out quite frequently. You have had sex with her and you emotionally connect with her and she seems to be the woman that you've been looking for! You share so much in common and you have a feeling that this is the one and then you find out 6 months past the point at which you started getting intimate that she is only 16, going on 17 soon.

She seemed so mature, and many people live with their parents into their mid-twenties so it's no big deal. She carries herself like a real lady and when she said she was a student, well, I guess you assumed she was in college, right? We don't all ID card our dates, do we? You just trusted your assumption and she never corrected you...

So what do you do?

Stay with her 67
Break up but remain friends 9
Break up and never associate with her again 17
Wait until she is legal 53

  • I find it hard to believe if the OP is mid twenties or even of legal drinking age (21) they would have much in common with a HS sophomore.

I certainly wouldnt, I mean you couldnt even go out to adult environments (bars, clubs).

Not to mention the girl lied to you about her age anyway. Something that probably has to do with her maturity level.

      • So you enjoy hanging around high schoolers and their social environments? I would feel so silly doing that.

        • No, I don't enjoy high school social environments. But that doesn't mean that I frequent the pub and strip clubs. I don't need alcohol to get my jollies off a social occasion.

Eh, then maybe I'm boring, but drinking doesn't do much for me and I don't have to go to a strip club and pay for women to rub their tatas in my face. If I did I would say I'd have a pretty lackluster female friend base.

At my age, a girl that was 16 going on 17 is not an option, I don't care how mature they are! Now when I was 18 or maybe even 19 I would have felt differently, but those days are gone for me! If she isn't legal to drink, she is pushing my lower limits anymore.

    Pffff... tough one.

It's your call. If you really think you can spend your life with her, stay with her.

However, do you feel like you can trust her? She should've told you about her age a LOT sooner.

I find it hard to believe that a 15-16 yr old highschooler who still lives with mommy and daddy can be so mature that she seems to be in her mid twenties. The fact that she lied for so long shows her true maturity level. The brain of a sixteen year old is significantly less developed than a twenty five year old. And any twenty five year old that would date a fifteen or sixteen year old high schooler knowingly must have something wrong with them. I mean, she just learned to drive and still has a curfew :/

Btw this happened to a friend of mine when he was 20 and he dumped her feeling betrayed and disgusted.

If the age of consent is 16 then she is 16 and no law has been broken? If the person is much older then ur a pedo :P I personally wouldn't be with someone of that sort of age. It can mess up who they are. Someone who is 16-21 shouldn't be expected to be in a long term relationship.. There is too much to be learned in life. A girl or guy will change who they are and what they think/believe many times by the time they reach 30. Not all but most people aren't ready for a serious relationship till around 30. This is most likely why the divorce rate is the way it is. There is no 16yo Dream type of girl. 16yo girls usually are too busy being what everyone else thinks they should be not who they actually are because most people don't have any idea of who they are and what they like till around 30ish. Dunno if this all makes sense its 5am :(

    • You must be a different sort of idiot. I am a 20 year old female college student and my husband is well above 16. Maybe if you had literacy skills above that of a 4th grade level you would see from the post that I never admitted to dating a 16 year old girl. It was a hypothetical question.

      Dumbass.

    • It's a hypothetical. I don't know why people think that I am actually seeing a 16 year old girl. I am a married 20 year old female. And my husband is not underaged. He will be 28 this year.

18 limit is bloody stupid. If her parents aren't complaining I wouldn't worry about it. In UK it's 16 in other countries it's 14. It's just number, maturity is the more important factor and the fact that she consents.

What happens when a couple is 17 and then one person turns 18. Can they not legally have sex until the other reaches 18?

    I'm serious, I don't know.

    • Here in the USA, in some states, no, as it would be considered statutory rape.

In others, when you are under the age of 18 (and you are 15+) you have have sex with someone up to 4 years old than you so that is not even an issue.

Stay with her, In a year she'll be legal. If you dump her you might regret it later. I still say its got fuck all to do with anyone else what two people do in a relationship. Dont let other people dictate what you should do, if the two of you are happy together, then stay together.

Hu? Why not stay with her?

Ah, yeah, those ridiculous "legal" issues in...US, is it?
Seriously, your age-of-consent-laws seem like a load of BS to me and many other europeans.

Here it's 14, but parents could "overrule" up until 18.
But other than that, it's all fine and legal. When i read your stuff, i was first like, "Why, he didn't write how old he is, so he can't be asking about their age difference, right?", it only dawned on me when one of the answers was "Wait until she is legal".

Here it would be so extremely normal that it not even occured to me that could be unacceptable someplace else -_-
Really, some laws are just meant to be ignored, stay with her.

    • You're talking about a country in which most states won't even allow gay people to get married but it's cool for cousins... just not gay cousins.

Come on, what else did you expect from "Conservative Christian" America? Where the women can run around and have 4 babies with 5 different guys but making love to your long-term girlfriend is taboo?

Even looking at underaged girls can get you arrested here, assuming you're 18 or older v.v

Yeah, I had a Math teacher tell me that once. And I told him, "sir, you're a Math teacher, wouldn't you know that that is not even possible?" and his reply was... "that was the point".

          I never questioned it.

      • TerryVie

yep, but you are saying yourself how ridiculous things are.
I am just saying that it would be totally legal in SO many other countries...to show that from a moralic standpoint you are on the safe side.

You are happy with her, so i would not care about the laws when they are so stupid. Heck, if SHE wants to get you into jail she would already have. And if you both deny you ever had sex(with one another) who wants to prove you wrong :P

I'd say just stick with her and forget about the stupid laws.

        • It was a hypothetical question.
          I am 20, my husband is 27 and I am a female.

I didn't even state in the post that I was dating a 16 year old girl. Where did you all get that from?

          • TerryVie

because it sounds like a story :)

despite that, then my advice would be to a hypothetical person.

As you could read in the beginning, in my country it would be perfectly legal, so no problem to begin with.

For the options to make sense/be able to respond to the core content you were getting at, i need to reply to a hypothetical person in this scenario...because i doubt you were looking for an answer along the lines of "What, thats legal anyway, why would you break up with her, you stupid?", right?

For the record, i'm also female, but bisexual in my mid-20s, and if i did not already have a wonderful girlfriend, and this theoretical scenario would take place during a long-term visit to the states, i would follow my own advice and just stay with her, or convince her to come to europe as exchange student-at which moment it will probably matter what kind of people her parents are.

            • It was a poll >.< I made up the story as a hypothetical scenario. I guess I should take up creative writing.

But I understand that. I didn't know you had a girlfriend, you guys have an open relationship?

    Stay with her.
Even if she is under-age, you've already crossed the line and should make the best of your current situation.

You've already broken the law. The last thing you want is to upset her and give her reason to report you for it.

You've already stated that she's your dream girl and more mature than her age.

Ever consider that the reason she never corrected you is because she didn't want you to dump her over something like this?
