When I was single I would cuddle with my male friends. I remember a camping trip I went on quite a few years ago, I was cold, he was cold, we cuddled. However, if he began to stroke my face and caressing me it might have been taken as flirting. So, if this boy was merely just cuddling with you it might be platonic. However, if there was touching and caressing there might be feelings involved.
I would be ok with cuddling an attractive female friend as long as we both knew we were just friends and mutually respected that boundary. Friendships can be ruined in an instant and I would never jeopardize that connection by acting inappropriately. It would be harder to cuddle with a girl that I had feelings for (and who I felt was interested or open to being influenced as well) because I wouldn't be able to trust myself that I would exercise self-control and restraint and not get carried away, on top of initially being nervous too.
