He's 23, I'm 26. He and I are literally inseparable, really have a blast together and I really like him but he won't date me because I'm 3 years older. He'll say Damn you're amazing, too bad you're older than me because youd be the best girlfriend.

That's just pathetic. If he was like 12 and you were 15 I could maybe see it but 23 and 26. Honey you can do better than this child anyways

What the fuck? Why in the world he would say that is beyond me. Either he loves you but was dropped when he was a kid, he loves you and has a SEVERE irrational fear of dating age gaps or he doesn't actually love you and just tells you that and acts like it to make you feel good. Man this is baffling me lol.
He does only like me as a friend because he keeps saying I'm too old for him it's a shame and says I'm too mature because I'm older etc. He's drawn the line because I'm older.
I was thinking that. It's not a big enough age gap to stop someone who is actually interested.

There IS the possibility he is wanting to date someone younger than he should be messing with.
There is also a theory that females mature faster mentally. The female body develops slightly sooner than male ones but mentally, people close in age are on the same maturity level.
I don't know, maybe to him he thinks of you as this older, mature, established woman. That could intimidate. If it makes you feel better though - for those of us over 40, anyone in their 20's still seems like a kid. If someone is 30 or over, they seem like adults cause by then the world has beat them down a few times.

It's a preference. He likes dating people his age, end of. Don't take it personally.
But it is personal. He likes her, but refuses to date her over something that's out of her control, and constantly reminds her of this. Not only is this action immature, its fucked up.
Noooo. You cannot change someone's preferences. You can't do it. It's unfair to call them immature because they prefer a certain age range. She needs to accept it and let it go.
It's not his preference that bothers me. It's how he's going about it. He doesn't need to constantly tell her that it's her age that fucking everything up, he can just say it once and leave it alone or keep it to himself. Why is it acceptable for him to constantly remind her that she's too old for him, she can't help that she's older?

Next time when he says that reply back in your own humorous/sarcastic way, "Well gosh darn, didn't know there was an age requirement for happiness, because I like you too."
Your forwardness may catch him off guard since he's young and dumb. However, you got to seriously consider if hes worth pursuing if he's immature enough to think its unacceptable for women to be older in a relationship. It kind makes you think, what if you made more money than him or had a better car than he did, would he be just as immature about these trivial things too?
"Because you're older" is an excuse. It's not his real reason.
Even if it was, you can't change it. Don't dwell on it - he's just not into you.
