Dorian Gray was used by an Irish 19th century writer, I think it reads more elegantly.
Well, I have an equestrian background and the horse color has always been spelled "grey" on many registration papers (namely Thoroughbreds), so I've seen that a lot. However, I also live in the US, where the color is spelled "gray". So, both look normal to me.
It just depends on which feels right. It's usually grey, but sometimes it's gray.
Sometimes one is used more as a verb or a noun. It's the same word grey is the England version and gray is american version though americans use grey too. Its seriously just two words that mean the same thing. Grǽg was the original word so you can see how the two different spellings can be derived from grǽg.
