Grandma does this

My grandma does weird things at night. She will just open her bedroom door at 3 AM randomly, for no reason, take two steps into the hallway, go back in and close the door. Then at six AM she will just open the door again for no reason, this wakes my sisters and I up every day. Is this normal? Why on Earth does she do this?

Maybe it's to fart so the bedroom doesn't smell bad...

Maybe she's keeping guard? Or maybe she needs some fresh air? You should ask her, it could be her health.

How old is your grandma?? I agree with Parrish, it might be Alzheimer. My grandma had the same thing and she used to do a lot of funny stuff like these. You'd better make her see a doctor. Don't wait too long cause it might get worse.

all people here predict it as some kind of disease.. I not at all felt like that..
you know what , my mum does this and so did my grand mother..but what I have always thought about this is that they worry ... we all know that the whole responsibility of house is upon them and they are worried about whats going on ... they want to supervise things happening in the house.. may be she just wakes up to look whether all of the family members are okay, comfortable and not in nay problem... maybe she just wakes up to see every thing in the house is safe.. whether the door is properly locked or gas or fire is put off... my mum visits our room two to three times in the night to ensure that everything is fine..
I would suggest you to consider this..

That does seem strange. Maybe it's dementia? Try talking to her about it.

Apart from this weird behaviour, does she appear to be sane? I think that factor makes quite a big difference.

The best answer you could get is if you ask her. She might have anything from OCD to Demon Possession. I doubt its Alzheimer's.

I doubt this case would have anything to do with possession (after all what could an evil spirit hope to gain by making her do that), but progressive dementia makes old people do some weird sh!t. I think alzheimer's mostly affects short term memory.

I wasn't serious about the "demon possession" part:P I guess the only thing a demon could hope to accomplish is scarring and disrupting the other inhabitants of the house.

Yes.. if she has interrupted sleep it sounds like she might be in pain or has some other health issue. You ought to ask her and encourage her to talk to her doctor about it if it is pain, etc.

Sounds like OCD. Old people have weird things..yesterday I was at work and I was riding in the elevator with this old woman. She looked terrified when I got out of the elevator and asked me how she could WALK to the second floor. I showed her the stairs but told her the easiest way would just be to take the elevator. She responds "I don't want to be in the elevator by myself." And walks down the stairs at 1 mile an hour to get to the second floor. People do weird things because of their own phobias is my point.

Yeah, she could have Alzheimer's. Or she could have a problem with sleepwalking.
