God the universe and everything in between

After just watching the news about those crazy guys in geneva with thier hadron collider is anyone else worried? I understand particle physics to a point and what they are doing is not good. I believe that there is no God and as such have took time to understand the universe. unfortunatley for all you god botherers out there we are in fact the result of a great cosmic accident, there is no grand design, and that accident started with a couple of protons colliding at great speed!! Also if the scientists are to be believed they are looking for the higgs boson particle, the so-called 'God particle' if they find this does that then mean that religion is no longer valid, if we unlock the secrets of the universe (before we destroy it) and prove that actually everything is just an accident, then whats the point to life? I worry about such things. Also its possible that our entire universe could reside in a single atom, that is itself residing under the tonail in the hind leg of a large dog. Is it normal to think about these things?

I think Jesus will return before we destroy the world. I just don't think it's going to be a nice place to live by the time he gets here.

  • it is not possible to prove that we all came about by "accident", even if one can prove that life can be produced by "accident". even the existence of seemingly random events do not prove or disprove the existence of god, because the mere fact that events occur, random or otherwise, can be used to argue for the existence of god.

To use science to dispute religion is as misguided as using religion to dispute science (which is what the catholic church did disputing that the earth was not the center of the solar system, and what creationists try to do in disputing evolution).

The two areas of thought(science and religion) deal with different spheres of conciousness.

I disagree. Science and Logic can be used to reveal inconsistencies in beliefs and by Aristotle's Law (A is A) there can be no contradictions, thus proving the non-existence of the belief. So if you agree that "A" is "A." And apply logic to the definitions of God, you will see that he cannot exist.

There are too many examples. This is one that I came up with recently though: God is defined as a perfect being. The idea of perfection differs between you and I. If you were to imagine the perfect mate, for example, it would probably (most likely) differ than one I conceive and even if it didn't, eventually someone will disagree with our idea of the perfect mate. In other words, perfection is subjective (meaning it changes depending on the subject) The facts of the universe however, are objective (it does NOT change depending who observes it).

[This in itself can be confusing though. For example - you may not be moving right now or you can find something that does not move, but that is only with relativity to the earth. Relative to the sun you ARE moving. So, you are & are not moving at the same time. This might seem like a contradiction, but you have to realize that they don't mean it in the same way!]
      Continue...
You cannot manifest perfection because it'll have contradictions, therefore, a perfect being cannot exist (in reality anyway) "He" can exist as an idea though!

  • If we just all came about by accident, and what would be the point in life if we didn't have a God? Is that what you are basically asking? Sounds to me like you are confused in what you yourself believe in.

I do believe in God, I'm not religious. I don't believe in modern, organized religion, because I don't believe God would want people to be as judgemental as they are in churches.

I honestly think people are too smart for their own good. When it comes to physics and every intelligent, scientific thought that ever popped into a person's head, how do you really know that we have even yet to begin to understand why we are here? We still have eons to go before we ever start "evolving".

I mean we are still very primitive. If you look through our history, are we really so much different from our ancestors? I'm not talking about neanderthals either. Sure we have computers and technology, we also have people who just want to choose to accept a different path, but that doesn't make you right because you can tag some scientific mumbo jumbo to every sentence in your every day conversations.

Even if there is a God and you don't believe in him, tell me what is your purpose in life then?

  • Its normal to think about these things if we didnt we wouldnt have the Matrix movies. Im not worried about the hadron and if it doeant work they could make a great thrill ride out of it, The could call it the subatomic and shoout you through it real fast

Ive actually thought of this before. Basically my way of puttung it is that what if the universe is a small part of a way bigger obect.

You have an interesting imagination. Are you worried that the LHC is going to make a black hole or produce the next Big Bang? Most scientists think that's unlikely, otherwise they wouldn't have made the machine to begin with.

Personally I believe there is a Creator, since eruptions of infinite energy like the Big Bang cannot occur without some outside stimulus. If you want to say our universe came from another universe, then where did that one come from? This is the "logical" part of belief in a god or gods. What you believe about the divine apart from what you know are facts (i.e. evolution, the Big Bang) on is up to you.

Looking in retrospect god exists too feeble minded people that are dying. Ever wonder about the LHC maybe a portal yaw for aliens or underground bunker for the elite. Why do they spend so much money on building something to send hydrogen protons which are a literaly the size of nothing. Two reasons I think this won't work gravity will hold down the weight of the element of hydrogen. I believe the atomic mass would have to be less than 0.9999999u. I also believe that the reactivity of the tube must be less reactive than hydrogen or it may become a part of a chemical reaction or bond with the walls of the tube! Another possibility what if this was performed outside the earth's atmosphere maybe they could speed up the acceleration even faster!

Not bad from a guy taking Gr.11 chemistry, huh

Please reply I want to hear what you think of my views

Well don't go preaching about how you think that if you find the 'God Particle' that all Religion will be invalid because frankly, noone cares.

I'm a deist, I take no affiliation with any religion. But still believe in a God. I don't get too into it. Don't question my reasons either. I just do.

Anyway I think that it is a waste of 10 billion Euros. All is does is shoot protons at each other at high speeds. They explode, and create a microscopic black hole that lasts a fraction of a second.

To be honest I'm not curious about how everything works either. I figure that I'm here now. I shouldn't waste my life trying to figure out how I evolved from a micro-organism or whatever.

  • You know bollocks all about this obviosly. The creation of the solar system and eventually us was up to a supernova which involves 10*10^6000000000billionbillioninfinitysquaredtothepowerofpi hydrogen nuclei. Not protons, when they collide they split to form quarks and by doing the LHC this will cause a few thousand to split apart even the quarks and the particles below that to find the Higgs shitton or whatever you want to call it. There is NO chance of a black hole and what they are doing is absolutely pointless because they won't be able to use this subatomic particle for anything. All the elements on the periodic table are those which are created in a supernova and they it actually isn't possible to search for new ones in a black hole and we can't create a black hole here on earth simply because the earth doesn't have enough hydrogen to collide. Not even jupiter can do that. Stop worrying. But it is a big waste of time.

dude, hydrogen nuclei and protons are the same thing, except hydrogen nuclei have an electron attached. But the electron is so light weight that it doesn't matter, it just makes the proton have no charge.

Who on Earth ever said that the upcoming LHC particle collider that's going to look for the Higgs has anything to do with religion? Um... it doesn't. The phrase "God particle" is intended to convey the significance of the particle to our current understanding of particle physics. It has nothing to do with anything related to religion, it's just a phrase. The idea that the LHC (large hadron collider) has anything to do with religion is ridiculous. Furthermore, nothing it does is intended to or could possibly prove that the universe is an "accident." And have you thought through what you mean by suggesting that our universe could be inside an atom in some being's toenail? Your comments amount to pseudo-philosophical garbage. In other words, they're absurdly shallow and poorly developed. The LHC is nothing but the latest step in mankind's ongoing journey to understand what the most fundamental constituents of matter are, and how they interact. It is an enormous jigsaw puzzle and we are painstakingly attempting to assemble it piece by piece. Any success on the part of the LHC will just be one more piece; it will not result in anything catastrophic in the least.

It's not normal but you shouldn't care.
Normal is almost a synonym of average. It's good that you have those thoughts(from my point of view at least). btw, they can't just prove God doesn't exist. millions of ppl believe in their religions and are afraid to see anything beyond that. those ppl will stay in that position till they die. they are called normal ppl.
