Glass eye or eye patch?

If you were in an accident of some kind and sadly lost your eye, what would you choose to wear? Have a glass eye made and try and hide your missing eye as much as you can; or just wear an eye patch and start drinking rum. Okay, the rum part is optional.
I'm leaning towards eyepatch. Hardly anyone goes down this route and I like being an individual.

Glass eye baby, I can take it out and play marbles with it 24
Arr .. I be wearin' an eye patch 28
Both .. I can make the choice everyday! 29
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I'd cram a shiny stainless steel marble in it and do the robot.

If the accident could also result in a peg leg, then I'm definitely going the eyepatch route. The rum is a definite too (I had rum last night) and I know I'd give serious consideration to a parrot.

I'd probably also stand in the pedestrian area in the city centre and loudly lament, "Ahh, these lubbers paved over my bounty". Then I'd throw a Bounty bar on the floor and exclaim, "Ahh, there it is!"

P.S. Americans: Bounty is a coconut chocolate bar made by an American company and sold pretty much everywhere but America. I think have an equivalent called Mounds, although just the name of that makes me giggle. I want to come to America and say, "Ahh, those lubbers paved over my mounds".

    • Indeed, Bounty and Mounds are pretty much the same thing. I think Bounty is one bar, where Mounds is 2 smaller bars... if I am remembering right. Do you have Almond Joy over there? It's the same candy plus almonds on top.

Oh, and you can get Bounty in America, like in international food markets sometimes. Or if you work in the Bounty factor like my uncle.

A Bounty is two small bars here too. Is Almond Joy a Hershey's bar? We don't get a lot of that here. Europe is pretty much the home of chocolate-making and Hershey's really doesn't stack up well against most of it.

An American friend of mine said she realised she'd never tasted chocolate until she came here (she said the same about pizza and coffee in Italy). Bit of a surprise because I'm sure I've heard Americans talk about Cadburys. It's the low end of the market but I still like Cadburys chocolate very much.

        • I only know of Cadbury eggs.

I had to look it up but yes Almond Joy is made by Hershey.

What would you recommend I try to find as far as European chocolate goes?

I honestly don't know because there's bad chocolate here too (anything made by Galaxy tastes like plastic) and Guylian seems to be held up as quality when it really isn't. But there is also wonderful stuff. Basically, I'd look for the things not made by international conglomerates.

Hersheys use soured cream to replace the milk in their chocolate giving it that ever so unique pukey edge to the flavour. It doesn't feel like its tempered very well either.

You know your chocolate! I like to cook with chocolate and don't count myself as an expert in any way but so many of the people I talk to about it don't seem to know what tempering is.

I have to be careful what I say, though, because I can really look like a snob when I talk about either chocolate or cheese. :)

I'm more of an expert when it comes to tempering steel but I know a little about chocolate processes through all the foodie shows I watch.
I'm a keen but amateur baker.

I was right when I said you are a learned man. :)

actually, that sounds fun. i think i want to organize a flashmob now. There's a restaurant on a permanently moored ship in my city. I think i'll go and commandeer it.
A wooden treasure chest full with bounty(yep, the coconut chocolate kind) that can be split with my scurvey mateys will be supplied. Arrr....only i'll not make a very impressive captain, i'd probably make a better cabin boy-girl. -_-

can i get a webcam that looks like a glass-eye installed? That is inductively charged from my hat.
I would make it into a online life feed, subscribers(for cash) get to view during "privacy mode" as well. They see all i see.
Hopefully, i'll never have to work again :P

I was born in Bristol, England - a REAL pirate city! So definitely an eyepatch for me!
When I moved to Ireland and all the people heard I was Bristolian, they imediately started up with the old, " arrgh, me hearty! Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!"

I love Bristol. It's one of the friendlier cities I've visited. Last time I was down there, a barmaid picked up me and a friend's Manchester accents straight away and said, "Arr, you boys be a lawwwng way from 'ome". :D

Really? Friendly for tourists...but it's all cocaine-parties and illegal gang riots - very scary.
I've been sexually propositioned several times - once when I was pregnant, which was really scary. My husband was SHOCKED! He's from Ireland and he says it's much rarer elsewhere...he's pretty well travelled, bless 'im!
Still, there's loads of lovely people too - a real mixed bag.

Where in Bristol did you go?

        Xx

Wow... I had no idea of Bristol's seedy underbelly. I was actually staying in Bath (got friends there) but neither of us knew Bristol at all so we decided to have a wander around the city centre on our way back.

You've got some of the cheekiest seagulls I've ever seen!

I have indeed been to Weston. The gulls there were second only to Brixham.

              Gull cheekiness abounds there!

Oh, I thought you were asking which sexier. I was going to click glass eye in a heart beat. I don't know why, but the thought of a hot guy with a glass eye is sexy as HELL to me!

I'll take the eyepatch and the rum. When I had my (eye) surgery everyone made a joke about getting me one.

This man who always came into the place I worked wore an eyepatch and pretended to be a pirate.

Can I have both? The patch for those days when I'm feeling arrrggg, and the glass eye for days I'm feeling shiny.

The eyepatch is the way to go. If its black, I can match it with most of my outfits.

I'd go with the glass eye. If I wear an eye patch everywhere I'd be tempted to dress as a pirate as well.

I'd get some eye-like candy and have someone lick my 'eye' to freak people out.
