Girls who like math = gay?

I know, dumb question, but I want to know about stereotypes. I have heard that girls who are in majors that deal heavily with math (ie. computer science) are considered as gay/mannish by a lot of people. reason why I ask is cause I am a female and i love math but I am the only girl in one of my math/computer science classes and i feel embarrassed.

I've heard the stereotype and I agree 0
I have never heard of that and I think it's stupid 40
I've heard of the stereotype but i disagree 7
I have never heard of that but it's probably true 1
I don't give a fuck. 6

That's ridiculous. Listen, if anyone gets down on you for being good at math, ignore them as best you can. In this economy, STEM careers are your best bet to getting a good job and a decent life. Do not give that up just because some idiots judge you for your brains.
I'm a female and I wish I could have fallen in love with math. Math people usually wind up as engineers or scientists, making five to six figures. If you still feel embarrassed, try thinking ahead: a little bit of embarrassment now is a small price to pay for your future.

Math is the greatest subject. There will always be one answer.

I have never heard of this. Now if you said auto mechanics, then I might agree, but not math, or even science.

Get that thought out of your head, it is terribly misguided.

The only thing that makes someone gay is actually being gay. If you're not gay, you're not gay. It completely doesn't matter what your interests are.

The way to play the game is to put Art History, or Humanities book covers over your math and science textbooks, so you blend in with the general public.

Many male scientists and engineers (like me) like female scientists and engineers, anyway. I think they have a more sophisticated sense of humor, and are more responsive in bed as well.

  • I'm a math major and I'm not gay.
On average men tend to score higher in math then women i believe.

I have never heard that stereotype nor do I believe it.

There are actually a lot of female engineers where I work (well relatively, compared to college - it's still mostly men).

All of them are completely normal people though. Some married, some not. Some have children, some don't.

A friend of mine is incredibly smart and she's also incredibly beautiful. Don't worry about the stereotypes :)
