Yes. I do the same thing, and it always makes me panic horribly.

Fluid retention. Ways to help would be to reduce your salt and sugar intake beforehand, so that your body doesn't take in fluid for those as well. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Drink plenty of water and don't "hold it" very long. Light meals, high in fiber and complex carbs. Remember to exercise. Some OTC meds like diuretics or anti-inflammatories are good for this, too, but you dont want to rely on meds every time, and always check with a doctor first.

Thank you for your answer. I'll keep all this in mind next month and hopefully I'll be able to beat this bloat!

I always hear women complaining about this. So, I'm guessing it's normal.

Totally normal!! I get the same feeling, so does my sis.
It is because our body retains more water when we get our period. When I get my period I feel "fat" even though I am slender, and I feel like doing some exercise but don't have the energy to do it. And I think that the bloating feeling (that's awful by the way) derives from the liver, as the liver is responsible for making/producing the "lining" (blood) in our uterus, so because of this it bloats as it is under extra stress. It's similar process when you drink alcohol, as the liver again is the one that is responsible for processing the alcohol.
