Girls: is it normal for you gynecologist to call you fat?

I'm a bit curvy but by no means "big" but that's besides the point. I went to a new gyno (the 2nd I've ever been to) and after the exam she absolutely tore into me about it. She was downright rude, going on and on about how I am overweight and I need to do something about it asap. Her tone wasn't cautionary either, she was scolding me like a child (I'm 20). I was completely unprepared for that- i thought I was there to have my girl parts looked at, so I was in tears by the time I left. My regular doctor even says I'm very close to normal weight for my height and age.

Wow, what a bitch that gyno was. I think you need to be referred to a new gyno and forget about that one. People go to doctors to ensure they're healthy, not so they can be verbally abused (or worse). I know you're not fat but even if you were that still wouldn't give a gyno (or any doctor for that matter), the right to get on to you and insult you over it. They're supposed to be professionals, not bullies akin to those in the lower levels of school. I hope you'll be okay and you won't let what that asshole said get to you. Everyone deserves to have a good doctor and I hope that particular bad egg will be fired for insulting a patient.

Beyond inappropriate and absolutely hurtful! If your physician had some concerns about your weight, I can understand her need to express them, but verbal abuse has no place in constructive patient care. What a shitty bedside manner!

I wouldn't get upset over it, just get a different gyno and forget about her.

If I'm imagining it correctly, then no, that's not normal or appropriate for a healthcare professional to behave that way.

Now that's just downright unprofessional. Report her, miss.
