Girls: do you hate being called ma'am?

I'm 19 and I'm called "ma'am" sometimes and it actually annoys me. I don't know why. I prefer to be called "miss" if someone doesn't know my name. I honestly don't know why "ma'am" bugs me it just does. So I was wondering if anyone else feels the same.

P.S. I stated my age because I've noticed that older women hate it when they're called "ma'am".. I just didn't want you to think I didn't like it because it made me feel old or something. Lol.

Yes! I hate it! 46

I don't care about ma'am, it's the names like 'baby' that I hate because it freaks me out.

  • my girlfriend always calls everyone ma'am. She even calls guys this including me. I find it more humorous than annoying and its funny to see guys get offended by it.

I work in the public and call everyone Ma'am and Sir. Even kids sometimes. It's a respect thing. I have to respect the customer.

My EX used to call me Ma'am. It always sounded endearing to me. " 'Scuse me, Ma'am" "Thank you, Ma'am"

Maybe I'll hate it when I'm older.(23) I think your age is how you feel. Otherwise its just a number. If you are offended by it, you probably feel old and are insecure about it. Maybe hits a sore spot. Just speculating.

I am eighteen and I prefer to be called Ma'am rather than miss, because miss just sounds so immature, while Ma'am is more mature.
