Girlfriend is majorly self-conscious or am i just too clingy?

So I'm a boy aged 18. I have a girlfriend of the same age. We have been together for 6 weeks now and i really like the girl. I knew her for about 6 months before we began going out and we became really good friends over this time.
We go to the same college, on the same course. I see her often here but when we're in college she shows me little or no affection, when we began going out she wouldn't even talk to me. She talks to me now. But outside of college, like when we hang out around somewhere or just sit in at home, shes so different. Always giving me hugs, holding my hand etc.
I don't know why she does this. It really bothers me sometimes, how she can act like we're not even going out one minute. To being normal with me next.
Is it just me? Or is it something which a lot of girls have problems with?

Maybe she does not want the relationship to get in the way of her studies, if she was still like that away from college, then ya I think there would be an issue, but apparently her studies and future are what are important to her at those moments.

You have come here looking for clarity, and unfortunately, all that I can think to provide, is likely to further complicate things. There are many possible reasons why your girlfriend is standoffish in public settings. One possible reason is that she is a shy person and is not a fan of PDA (Public Displays of Affection a la hugging, kissing, caressing etc). In this case, you and your relationship with her are not the reason for her lack of affection..her shyness is. Have a talk with her about it and see what she has to say.

It is also possible that your girlfriend is uncomfortable being seen and associated with you. in this case, she is ashamed of you, and this is a terrible situation in which to try to build a relationship. Have a talk with her about it and see what she has to say.

There is also the final and most transgressive possibility; which is that she is seeing someone else, and does not want it to be known that she is seeing both of you simultaneously. Have a talk with her about it and see what she has to say.

Notice how whatever option you suspect is the case, a resolution always comes down to communicating with her about your feelings? Okay, bro...get to it!

    best of luck to you

thank you very much. really good advise here, i hope shes not seeing somebody else or ashamed of me in any way. I haven't felt like this for a girl for a long time. to find something like that out would be horrible.
thank you, i will act on your advise :)

Maybe she's shy of publicly displaying affection.

    Or

She's a whore bag sleeping with all your mates.

i don't blame you for being concerned about the way she is acting. guess you'd better find out what she's thinking.

I'm a big fan of "test the water". Basically, don't act like you're interest in her anymore. Check other girls. Do whatever to make her realize what she is missed and don't want to lose you. If that fail, dump her! I know that sound harsh, but from my experence that have to be that the way. No sense of loyality is worth it.
