Getting angry with those who blame their problems on drugs

A bit of background: I've experimented with and used a variety of drugs, ranging from weed to coke to heroin, various pills, psychedelics, etc.

One of the things that has always irked me is when people blame their problems or faults on their drug habits, instead of taking responsibility for their actions.

For instance, I hate it when someone suggests that sketchy, unethical behavior is a natural by-product of drug use - i.e., if I complain that a drug-using acquaintance stole from me and a person responds, "Well, that's what you get when you're dealing with cokeheads."

I have had a variety of drug habits, and I can honestly say that during that time, I never stole from anyone, I never slept with someone else's girlfriend, I never did anything that could be deemed sketchy or criminal and then blamed it on the drugs.

To me, this seems like a complete cop-out - a total lack of responsibility and personal accountability. What do you think? Are my feelings normal?

    Tbh a lot of hard drug users had shitty childhoods and so never had much morals to begin with.

    No two people experience things the exact same way. Sure, you overcame addiction, but a shit-load of people try and fail and try again and fail and on and on. You triumphed over addiction? Good for you. Don't turn around and be cunt towards peoples struggling.

    So in other words, you're a fucked-up addict with no self-control. Fucking mouth-breathers. Your life is worthless.

    Intoxicants prevent you from thinking clearly, from making the right decisions to do the correct things. Some people would do bad things regardless of them taking the drugs. The drugs makes it easier for them to commit the act and that's why some criminals take it. It is easier for a person to do something bad they normally wouldn't however, under the influence of drugs.

    I have to agree with you here, i myself have had years of drug abuse and addiction but never blamed anyone but myself for my actions although thebdrugs do have a direct influence on the way you act but I dont see that as an excuse. I never stole robbed people or any of that shit, a lot kf my "friends" did and always blamed it on being high on this or that but in all honesty its just the kind of people they were most coming from a less then happy childhood but still they refused to take an ounce of responsibility for any of the fucked up shit they did and people they hurt

    It's really a "you are what you eat" situation. Granted, you can keep certain moral codes while under the influence; but them minute you let the drug ride you, you're opening yourself to acts of desperation.

    yup I agree, we used to hold massive parties and our house got tore up and from time to time things and money got stolen which was so annoying but the majority of people really looked out each other. I now live with my boyfriend and we have MUCH smaller parties because as you know, you can only live like that for so long but yeah it definitely takes a certain type of person, drugs or not, to steal or hurt others.

    I agree dude my older sister is into drugs and when she does something bad it like everyone says "It's not her fault, It's the drugs." But I did a small range of drugs for a nice few years and it's not the drugs that make people do the things they do it's their personality.

    i see what u mean.. it is kinda stupid and it annoys me but i also feel bad cuz i dont kno what its like to be addicted. my brothers have been addicted to coke and heroin for 15 years and they have stolen from us and countless times from other ppl.. stolen and crashed my car and bike so i had absolutely no way to get around and never payed me back yet brag at how they get so much money for all the drugs they want.. but i duno i dont understand what drugs do to u i only smoke weed so maybe its just what it does to some ppl...

    I suppose that drugs effect different people differently but I can understand where you're coming from. If you have a strong enough sense of honor and morals then drugs should not change that.
