Get a high from lack of sleep

Sometimes, usually during a semester at college when I need to pull all nighters, I'll stay awake for two or three days straight. Then at some point I'll get a sudden boost in my energy and end up spending the day all hyper and do things like clean and rearrange my room. Then I'll crash and sleep for like 10 to 12 hours. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I've had that out of body experience when was about eleven years old and hadn't slept! I felt like I was literally beside myself, and I almost fell, it was so trippy.

I've had it happen working shifts with little or no sleep. Unfortunately you cannot control this energy boost or if you even get it. But it always catches up with you in the end anyway.

My worst time of staying awake was being up for 31 hours then having a 6 hour drive, the journey actually took longer because I kept having to stop.

I've had nights when I can't sleep and stayed up for 24hrs straight, however never been past at least 35hrs of sleep. That's dangerous to not sleep that long! I know when I miss my sleep I become even moodier than I usually am, and I'm manic-depressive!

I've gone close to 100 hours without sleep and can associate with a lot of this. The insomnia is a definite problem after about 48 hours. Also a feeling like sea-sickness when you do try to lie down. After 72 hours, there's a mild sense of paranoia. And beyond that, hallucinations. I've seen aliens peeking in my window, angels at the end of the bed. I had a normal conversation with someone I have no recollection of. And I've had "waking" sleep where I've been awake but unconscious (sounds strange, I know). The wall clock skipped forward just over an hour in a few seconds.

During a summer of sleeping less than an hour a night, I started to have what I called "the floats". I couldn't feel my feet on the ground when I was walking and was convinced I was floating. By far the most interesting and positive experience, though, was the out-of-body sensations. It's impossible to describe because it's just not part of normal human experience but when you read about people having operations and seeing themself, it's obviously the same thing. The best way I could describe it is that you're not actually seeing yourself floating above, looking down, but that another sense (not sight) is aware of you somewhere below. Almost like the soul leaving the body.

To concur with the poster above, though, sleep deprivation can be dangerous and I don't mean anything I've said to glamourise it in any way.

Yeah LOL I get that. I don't know the proper scientific term used but yeah your body starts doing wierd shit. I fucked with my body so much that I remained hot permanently, even in winter people would be wearing three jacks and I'd be in a t-shirt and shorts and if I went inside I'd start sweating. And yeah you get that energy boost, like a natural high and its good!

Yes. You can actually DIE from exhaustion in some cases. Im not kidding. Im not sure the exact hours, but I think its 72 hrs straight without it. I guess what it does is your organs go into failure. Google it. Ive stayed up 24/48 hrs straight & I get like Im drunk, then I get insomnia from being too tired & end up hyper also. Soo strange. Then you just crash. Not healthy though & I know my whole body aches after pulling all nighters.
