Gay rights vs straight rights

Do you feel that with gay rights being increasingly embraced, the rights of straights are starting to get somewhat abused?
For example, a student at a school got in trouble for wearing a t-shirt that said "straight pride" because it would offend the homosexual students. However, the homosexual students have a day dedicated to homosexuality (no one was concerned it would "offend" the straight students?)

I'd like to see someone wear a "White Power" t-shirt during black history month.

Wtf. Straight people have "rights", gay people don't. It's not like you can argue for straight rights.

I'm gay, and think that shirt is funny. There is a difference between "straight pride" and "no rights for gays." I believe in equality, equal rights for all - straights included!

  • I want equal rights for everyone, we're all people at the end of the day. But I do think that instead of dedicating a day to gays or straights etc. they should just make it a day to embrace sexual orientation as a whole, regardless of what particular one someone is.

Like a respect everyone day! :D

Just treat everyone as a person. We all have feelings, whether we admit them or not. But, if there is a gay guy, for example, that's been hitting on you persistantly, after you've told them you were straight, I'd call that harassment. And yes, everyone has the right to report it.

  • RealisticHonesty

It's important to look at context. The person wearing that shirt was a homophobe trying to push belief that gays having rights is impeding on his rights. Also, straights are not the minority, they never had a problem with rights to begin with, so to wear a shirt like that obviously shows that you're trying to get a reaction. Hostility is always met with hostility.

This picture sums up what my thoughts are.

I'm all for equal rights. However, I got very offended at uni a while ago when a gay guy was constantly hitting on my boyfriend saying some awfully explicit things. If a guy had said that to a girl at a bar, he would have been slapped and then kicked out. If a girl had said these things to my boyfriend I would have decked her, so why the hell does this guy think he can get away with it? I've decided now, I don't care what your sexual orientation is, you treat everyone with the same basic respect, this includes leaving other people's partners alone. Think about him - sure. Tell me you think he's hot - no big deal. DON'T hit on him like you were, because you will lose your teeth.

Why does it even really matter? Straights have been prominent for decades even centuries. But gays can't even have a day. Gays can't even have 0.00273972603(1/365) out of a year I mean really people. Ignorant people just have to suck up their feelings and move on. What names can you think of that straight people have been called because their straight(I can't think of any). Now, think of all of the names straight people had called gays(I can think of a few). The gay/lesbian community has been ignored for the longest time. When they are noticed it is usually on the news "Young gay male found unconscious in alley".

  • Of course it is important that people are treated equally, regardless of their sexual interests, but you have to think about the context of the matter.

It wasn't many years ago that being homosexual was illegal! I don't see a need to wear 'straight pride' T-shirts anyway, as being straight is 100% accepted, so it's just unnecessary.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I think they should have been able to wear the shirt IF shirts that said/supported "gay pride" were, too! How is that fair? "Offending" people is so subjective. I think love is love and everyone deserves rights, and that's that.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being proud of being straight, has there is nothing wrong with being proud of being blond or to like rock and other stuff like that.
If gay people can be proud of being gay, then straight people can be proud of being straight, it's just common sense.

Gay people should have the same rights as straight people! Just bc you like the same sex as you are doesn't make you any different from straights

There's a difference between gay rights and "straight pride". That's like the contrast between African American rights and "white pride".
Seriously. No one is telling straight people that they can't get married, and there's no one harassing straight people for being straight.

  • People should have the right to express their opinion aslong as it doesnt doesnt involve violence (unless violence is needed which isnt needed in college, school etc). If they have a day to embrace homosexuality then straight people should have a right to express their "straight" views. If I saw that happening in my past school or in the college I am in at this time I would most likely start a discussion about it to the person in charge of the school or college.

    Romans 1:18-32
Nature shows it plainly that homosexuality is not designed. Statistics show it plainly that homosexuality is not healthy. Homosexuals show it plainly that it is not beneficial to society.
Wisdom shows us what is plain, the real problem is people want to do what they want to do, even when it is wrong. It's been going on since the beginning of time.
The last verse here says that "they know the judgement of God." Everyone has been given a basic scale in the heart to measure right and wrong. Even if we were to "omit" homosexuality out of the equation, everyone would still be caught by their own words and found guilty of doing wrong. Doing good deeds do not erase the wrongs we have done, they only cover them up. The problem here is, heaven is heaven because everyone there is sin-free. The only hope for us all is to have our sins completely forgiven rather than covered up. And Jesus is the only One who can do this.

The other day I was hanging out shit-talkin with a fellow straight friend. He jokingly called me a crackhead, and I jokingly responded calling him a cocksucker. Suddenly out of left field comes Mr. Proud Gay Guy comes prancing up with something to say.
“You know,” he begins, “you can keep throwing around insults like the one you just said, but it doesn’t do anything to stop what people do. We’re proud of who we are and what we do.”
“Wow,” I said with a straight face. “Way to go man. Way to stand up for yourself. But why’d you come over here? Was it because I said cocksucker?”
    “Yeah,” he answered, “no shit!”
“So,” I continued, “gays are proud of what they are and what they do, and you’re here to defend that because you’re gay?”
“Yes!” he responded furiously. “Those are statements thrown around to make gays look bad. But we were born this way and are proud of it!”
“Well,” I said, “I can totally understand most of that. I can actually relate to most of it myself. See, I’m straight, and I too was born this way. And, like you, I am rather proud to say that. The one difference I see in us, however, is our different reactions to words.”
He stood there in confusion, unsure what gay quote he should be getting ready to resort to.
“See,” I begin while I’ve actually got one listening, “I use the term cocksucker, and you waltz right over here to defend your people against it. Meanwhile, you can call me pussylicker, tittyfucker, boobaddict, whatever the hell you want... and I’ll just be sitting here smiling. I won’t confront you about it, I mean why would I? You’re practically bragging about me.”
“What the hell are you trying to say?!” he exclaims.
“I’m trying to point out that no matter who you are, no matter how you say the two terms, dick-sucker and chick-fucker may rhyme, but ya just can’t fight the fact that one’s a degrading insult, and one’s not.”
By now he’s frollicking away to LaLaLaLa-icanthearyou-Land, with a little extra pep in his step, talking with more of a lisp than ever now. You know why? Cause he's got gay-pride ;) You stay classy San Francisco.

Gay rights, straight rights, what does it really matter... You know who you are right? .. You have good friends right? .. I'm sure you're loved by somebody right? .. Then worry about yourself and let everyone else be themselves, it's not really a big whoopie. I'm not gay, but I could care less if gays have rights or not, no more than I do for the straight people like me.. I have my family who cares about me a lot, and I have my best friends too, that's all I care about.

  • Everyone should have their own rights. Gay people shouldn't be teased. If your a girl and like girls, no problem. If your a guy who likes a guy, I think thats fucking adorable.
Straight people think that being gay is the end of the world, when actually it is the most sweetest thing ever.

I think two guys together is pretty hot. Doesn't mean I see them as objects, just that it's hot to look at. It's the same with guys who think two girls together is hot, it's just their opinion. I'm sure this person wasn't trying to objectify gay people or talk about them as if they are animals in a zoo for people to gawk at, she just thinks gay people are adorable.

    Nope.avi

gay folk are nothing special, need to grow the fuck up, and move along. you aren't legally entitled to marriage for one simple reason: Because you're a fucking statistical anomaly that has no place in nature. that's it. move along or go get a trophy spouse and fuck yer lover on the side. The last i heard, Polygamous Marriages were still Legal in the US. 2 dudes? go enter a 3 way marriage with some chick you both trust. 2 chicks? go find your male BFF and marry him and drive him insane.

    PROBLEM FUCKING SOLVED.

Most gays don't think they are special, moreover they would prefer to not be thought of like that. And my brother and my friends have more a place in nature than your hateful bile ever could.

Most of the people commenting on this completely disagree, or disagree to an extent with this question. You are one of the few who actually agrees with the OP. Now tell me, how is me pointing that out being narrow minded? I think you're just spouting random words that you think will be insulting and condescending, but in reality, you make no sense.

Your opinion is in the minority because the majority of the commenters disagree with this thread, yet you agree with it. Do you not know what the word minority means? In fact there is a species of fish where the female fish will become male fish later in life. There is a species of lizards that are all female,ANd they mate all the time. ._. So... Being gay is in fact a part of nature. Even male dolphins will screw other male dolphins. Monkey will have 'sword fights'. Just nature babe.

Well one thing that annoys me is gays are now trying to use the fact "Im gay" as justification of a claim. I really hate when people say "Check your privilege".

I guess if a straight person says something they are wrong but if a gay person says something they must be right. I really hate this type of obnoxious behavior.

Its like saying "Im right because im an atheist, im right because im a christian, im right because you are a different race". People need to stop using things like race, religion and sexuality as proof of a claim.

That has nothing with being free to be gay. That is just people being prejudice since they believe their group is better. Its not and people need to stop and realize this. No one is better and we are all the same.

I think the whole purpose of gay pride is to open people up and show everyone that gay is okay. I don't see the point of that kid wearing that "Straight Pride" shirt. When was the last time a straight guy was discriminated against for being so darn straight? If the shirt was just to because the student was silly, but had no ill intentions, the student didn't deserve to be punished.

All that aside though, I don't see how gay rights could at all affect the rights of straight people. Really, I can't figure out a single reasonable way it could actually hurt anyone at all.
