Gathering information on someone?

To start I work in a formal "mobile" security position. I am very interested in a female that I see three times a week Mon, Wed, and Fri. For a very short time usually less than a minute on these days. She is friendly makes general eye contact and smiles, but not enough that I can gauge if she is interested? Why don't I just ask? Well it is against company policy to flirt or otherwise romanticaly assosciate with co-workers and or customers. So much in fact that they have fired two people this year alone. ENTER the dilema.. If I ask her on the job then, I risk a complaint that could end in termination, or I could gain a meaningful relationship with her and no one would know. I need an angle, more information to determine if she is interested. The thought of covertly watching her has been coming into my mind. I am not a stalker never have been, but why now are these thought coming to me? Is this normal? I know stalking is not and is a major privacy violation but are my thoughts normal? Can I be that infauated that Id do anything to get closer to her? Is there any other way?

Gathering information on someone just sounds creepy. Following someone just sounds creepy. If she were even to find out you posted something like this most girls would find that offensive. Just because someone is friendly and maintains eye contact does not mean they are interested. Maintaining eye contact shows respect, nothing more than that. You dont go to work to make friends and you shouldnt try to utilize people who's paths you cross to do such. I heard a story from a friend once that his buddy met a girl in the same fashion and start dating her she turned psycho and stalked him. Besides being in a mobile security position that is taking advantage of your job. Most women dont want to be hit on at work she is there to do a job not meet a mate.

On 4chan you'd be totally normal. In real life? Not so much.

Start with "hi, how are you?".

From a security perspective it is a generally accepted principle that people who are "frequently passing by" should be "passively investigated" i.e. say hello and learn how she fits into your local scenario in a non intrusive and friendly manner.

From a personal perspective you should only learn about her from the information she provides you. Anything more is not normal.

Yeah, maybe she is interested, but chances are she is just being friendly. It's really not worth risking your job, and it's a pretty creepy, horrible thing to do to a girl as well. Move on.

There are 6 billion people on this planet -- half of them women. Go find another one and don't foul your own nest.

I don't think wanting to watch her is so strange, but if she finds out you could be in serious trouble, as you know. Maybe leave asking her out for a while, and if your feelings remain unchanged, try to get to know her more by asking her to a film with friends or something like that so if a complaint was filed you could argue was just a friendly outing.
