Funerals are lame

Funerals, in general, really bug me. Every funeral I've gone to, the deceased is suddenly a saint who did no wrong. Also, the "mourners" gather round and appease their guilt be talking about how much they've regreted this and that, while going back to their same way of living 2 hours later. Pathetic in my opinion.

I find funerals very depressing and I usually try and get out of going to them.

    * and it's psychologicaly important for people to SEE the dead body because it breaks this kind ''only gone for a while'' feeling that you have when you learn someone is dead. This way they can start the ''Grief'' process and move on in heathier way. It stops people from denying the death and nourishing all sorts of ''Come back'' fantasies.

It's easy to laugh at people who hurt because they lost someone they really loved.

How the fuck do you think you will act when your mother will die? Laugh and piss on her grave 'Cause it's just grave? I bet you'll cry and bring up some good memories with her...just like they are doing, when the pain is so immense you don't care about the stupid fights you had over silly things while she was alive.

People can always say some smart-ass shit like this as long as it doesn't concern themself or someone they love and once the joke is on them than it's not fun anymore.

Funerals terrify me...the open casket thing just... *shudder* I feel tears of what I think is panic well up in my eyes... When I die I want it to be in a plane crash or something dramatic so that there's no body for people to mourn over. I find it silly how people get so worked up during funerals. They are dead. The body is void of spirit. We should be happy they don't have to suffer anymore. They are in a better place. But yeah I think you are very normal!

I hate funerals. Honestly, an open casket is the most disgusting thing. Also the service is long and boring and teary and my bum goes numb.

Funerals cost a lot of money too. Did you know that people have to take the time to plan their own funerals? Nobody usually does it for you unless you're a kid or a teenager or something.

Otherwise you have to buy your own casket (expensive), pay for a funeral home (also extremely expensive), purchase a space in a cemetary (very expensive)...plus it's a real chore. But it has to be done. You are going to die. If you don't like funerals you don't have to have one. You can have yourself cremated, and put someone in your will who will get the ashes. They can throw your ashes into a field, or keep them, or launch them into space for that matter...

In deaht we tend to remember the good of a person not the bad. You can hate them while alive but respect thier death.

whats the old saying " never speak ill of the dead". I think its a cultural thing that is probably rooted in very old religious beliefs and propagated by christianity. there is a part in the bible that talks about the sins bound on earth are also bound in heaven, i think the forgiving and remembering the person as only good, is in effect a way of saying he jesus we forgive him dont send him to hell. we are cool with him going through the pearly gates. LOL. seriously though i think its away of letting go of all the petty stuff and puts things into prospective, like hey he had a quick temper but all in all he was an ok person. i think they are creepy for other reasons, like why do people want to view the deceased? why does that make people feel better when they say good bye? and why do people always say " i feel your pain" " im here whenever you need me for anything" i am always tempted to say great i need you tomorrow i need you to clean my toliets or pop the zits on my brothers back. you know they would be like wtf but i wonder if they would do it. all im saying is celebrate life, and keep all things in perspective. does anyone wonder what they said at Hitlers funeral? I do.

I guess at a funeral, your supposed to be thinking back on the good times, because since they've died, it doesn't really matter what sins/bad things they have done, but what the good deeds they have done to make the world a better place. It's seriously sentimental, i know, but when a person dies... it's pretty sad.

I appreciate your opinion on this. It has made me think how dumb funerals are...

I agree. I personally despise funerals.

The way people choose to remember the dead is fake. They really like to capitalize on the positives, even when the deceased person's flaws out weigh the good. Don't even get me started on the mourners.

This is also kind of a reflection of how I want things to go after I die. I personally do not want a funeral. I just want to be cremated and have my ashes scattered outside, preferably the ocean (I am from Hawaii). Other then that I really do not want people to mourn me, not even my best friend.

Well, you're clearly a better person than the deceased or the mourners. Nobody is going to thank you for sharing that fact, but it's still a fact. Solution: don't go to funerals. They are lame.

i don't see what wrong with tryin to remember someone in a positive light at their funeral, especially given that the bitching about the deceased tends to start the moment you leave the graveyard, at least round here.
i also think people try to be respectful at funerals more for the family than the dead person. if you love somebody, you don't really want to hear them run down on when you're still grieving.

there is a very wise saying for this case " if you want people to talk crap about you get married, but if you want people to talk about you like youre God's perfect son then die " but on the other hand how would you like your funeral?

I kinda agree. 'Nothing but good about the dead' as I hear people here say often.
But what bothers me is that people can cry and act like they care but from the moment they step outside the church/building they smile and laugh... Some say they do it so it's easier to go on with their lives, some say it's their way of mourning.. I say they just don't care...
