Friends have like 3463 friends on their facebook?

Okay i know it's like really weird, but some of my friends have like a ton of friends on Facebook, and they really aren't friends with half of them, and I ask them like why they do it and they say that they actually are friends with them (when they really aren't) or they know the person. Facebook isn't a popularity contest, it isn't made to add every single person you know, friends or not, like that to me is just stupid. I'm not like jealous thinking "I wish I had more friends" or something weird like that..it just bugs me for some strange reason, is this normal ?

People who have that many friends need and crave attention. How do i know?? Because I am related to one of those people. And you should have standards when adding people, otherwise you can be labeled as a whore...

These people are insecure and to be able to say that they have X number of friends on facebook is a way of telling themselves and others that I am a likable, worthy, and worthwhile person. Pretty sad really

I always think those kind of people are hoarders in real life.

People who have about 100 hundred 'friends' on facebook seem okay to me. More than 500 and im like 'dude who are you, a rock star??' :/

ofc it bugs you! you're friends are posers! (in this aspect) and are playing some lame popularity game you don't want to be part of. ppl who collect friends on facebook annoy the hell out of me too. it's just.. for lack of a better word, totally lame.

Actually, Facebook IS much like a popularity contest. It's a good reflection of real life.

I had often wondered about this myself. I think people have different standards of who they add and don't add

Some people just looove to be popular, which is most probably the whole reason for their doing it. There's a bunch of people out there who do that, but not everyone, it's not weird to do or not do it.

Just don't do it yourself, cos you can almost bet that most of them aren't as privacy conscious as they should be, and that can have bad consequences (Identity theft through to cyber bullying)

Why don't you just worry about yourself and leave other people alone?

I am not doing anything to "these people" it's just something I have noticed.

I think this is ridiculous and I've never been able to understand why people do this. Why would anyone with sense accept requests from a total stranger? People share all of their personal business with strangers nowadays. What happened to having privacy? If I had a Facebook I never accept things from strangers, I wouldn't friend people unless I knew them and I wouldn't be exposing all of my personal business.

My Husband thinks he really has real conversations with movie stars and so called stars in general. I told him the majority of your so called famous friends are posers. We got into a fight about a bimbo on his list that is same age as our youngest child 20. We have been married 30 years and he has basically chosen facebook over our marriage which was good until facebook came along. Ex girlfriend crap you name it. Anytime I say one thing to him about any of it I am immediately defriended. Just 3 weeks ago he put this huge story up about how we met all adoring. Now I think it was just an attention thing. Was not really about us at all. I have 39 friends after him deleting yet again. IMMATURE! He has over a thousand! Tries to justify it all. PLEASE if you want your so called love of your life to stay in your life make them the priority and actually care about what their feelings are too. I want the man back that I married that would have never done this to me..... Middle age bullshit! Agreed anything over 100 is bullshit. Would you have any of them over for dinner? Would you pick up the phone and actually talk person to person? If not they are FAKE filler friends. Interpersonal relationships are taking a back seat thanks to FAKEBOOK!

There are actually groups on Facebook where people can add each other, total strangers, for the sole purpose of having more friends on their Facebook page.

I have maybe 48 people on mine and it's really superficial, most of them I don't even talk to anymore, they're in another city.
