Frequently misspell words when taking notes or write a letter.

It seems like whenever I take notes or am writing a letter I frequently misspell my words by leaving out the last one or two letters in a word and continue on writing, then when I proofread I'll come back around and notice I did this 3-4 times on a page. Just wondering if its normal or if its part of my ADD.

I mess up my notes all the time, sometimes, like you, I leave out a letter or two at the end. And other times I accidentally switch letters, like when I meant to put an c but I just kept going and wrote an e. So yes, I'd say it's normal.

If you have ADHD/ADD, this could be completely normal...

Or it could be part of an associated condition.

I have 'dyslexia', a very common mental disorder which stops me from being able to read properly sometimes or affects the way I write.

I very often start writing a word and miss out the first letter, more often than not i'll add the letter on after i've finished the word.

Otherwise I consider myself quite an articulate and intelligent person and its not a problem.

Thankfully we have things like 'spell check' on computers that can help mitigate these instances.

It is worth checking with your counselor if it is part of your condition, because It could be something you can get support with. And could help your employability in the future...

For example with something like spell check, if you're writing corporate or business documents, you'd need that to ensure it was correct and you could get specialist software or help for that.

It isn't a problem in notes because the only thing that matters is that you understand them, in fact, it's good practice to shorten notes by altering the spelling of words so that you can get down what the lecturer is saying fast enough to not miss most of it out. Not just spelling either.

In informal letters it doesn't matter as the person reading it can usually decipher these misspelled words. When it matters, use a computer, as editing letters on one is easier than the draft, proofread, draft process of handwriting.

A theory. Maybe you are forming the sentence so fast in your head that your hand can't write fast enough to keep up so you skip to the next word to keep up with your sentence formation, leaving the previous word unfinished.

You subtract letters, I add words, short words. Especially the word "it".
