Formally british, now american

Hello. I am in my fifties, upper-middle class, nyc lawyer and proud american citizen. I was origianally British but moved to the US when I was 18, when i studied Law at Columbia University. I have now moved on from my British ways and I am happy living here with my wife and 2 kids. Is it normal to start a new life in a new country and forget where you originally came from? Comments please!

Well. You seem wrapped up in your current life and perhaps your simply a guy who doesn't look back. There's nothing wrong with that.

Thar ain't no way to blow off steam over thar in England. Peoples are way too polite. Git on a plane, come over here and git a six shooter, a cowboy hat, and a pickup truck. Y'all can enjoy the snow capped mountains, cactus deserts, and mile wide rivers. Good tropical fruit down in Florida too. Besides, American women are way easier to fuck.

Them Brits are nice folks, but I'm glad they kicked out my ancestors and sent them here. Besides, the Union Jack don't belong here no way.

They had an episode like this on king of the hill. Kahn is lay-ocean. He came from his country wanting a better life in America. He constantly snoots his nose up at his neighbors since he thinks they are a bunch of rednecks.

He however only does this since he is trying to impress people from his country that look down on him. One day a man who is a lot wealthier than him from his country and living in the US asks him to join this group. Its a group to prepare in case there is war back in his old country.

He does not want to do this but feels pressured to look good. This person also says that Kahn needs to have items from the old country and not forget his roots. At the same time his neighbor had gotten a pool which kahn really wanted to join but chose not to.

At the end of the episode he finally says "Fine well Im an American and im proud". Not saying anything about America or Britain but sometimes people leave their country for a reason and when they move somewhere else they are happy. Maybe you forgot about your home land since you really just weren't happy there to begin with.

It's not normal but perfectly fair. Identity isn't concrete - if you feel American and no longer feel British, it makes sense.

Well , here are some situations, in which one should see what is best! If you are a patriot; you will not forget your homeland, no matter wherever you live! But if you are a person who sees better future, business and investment in some other country better than your own, then you should live there. But if your family is compromised and you are not welcomed or have troubles to live in another country, it%%u2019s good to be back home! The last and final, live where you get love and where your family wants you to be, certainly a discretion of your heart as to where it wants to be also counts!

Is it normal for a lawyer to omit important capital letters, spell originally incorrectly and to waste time on a site like this?

Shame on you. you should never forget your heritage. I lived 12 years in America and never forgot my heritage the whole time I was there. You fit in only too well with the millions of Britons who think the grass is always greener somewhere else. Americans are over-patriotic and Britons are under-patriotic. It's a wonder the British Empire ever got started in the first place. All I can say is that you are a traitor to your own kind and should not be welcome back to your country of birth (as I doubt you'd consider it your homeland) even if you actually wanted to go back. You've obviously become so self-absorbed and wrapped up in your comfy lifestyle to even remember where you come from. Has it ever occurred to you that you could life a much similar lifestyle in the UK as you could in NYC? I'll have you know that my family makes more money here than they ever did in the US.

well, this happens when you move to a new place and trying to immerse yourself in the new culture. you shouldn't forget where you came from. don't you have relatives in England. Visit them sometimes.

why would a lawyer post this stupid question on this site anyway?
