For a guy to tear up singing

I'm a guy and I'm found of retreating to the woods or hilltops alone in my free time, where I get to sing some of my favorite songs uninhibited.

While I'm singing some songs though, I can't help but tear up in the process. An example of one such song is Travis's 'Driftwood'.

Singing can be an emotional thing. We don't all tear up at the same sorts of moments when singing. You do you.

I tear up when singing a song that reflects how I feel, or that speaks into my life situation or my conscience in some way. I especially do if when I'm singing in front of people in performance, or with people in a music group. I was in a musical once, and we were doing a super-dramatic whole-cast number during a sad scene. I never used to cry in that song in rehearsal, but on the stage, under the blue lights, with the scenery, costumes and acting, and with the orchestra pounding behind us, I cried through pretty much the entire song. It was epic. Alas, because of Covid I haven't been able to sing with people for ages, unless you count my 9th Grade Music class. But again, because of Covid, I have to teach mostly online now.

Then again, sometimes I tear up first, and then sing to really get all the angst out. I tend to do that alone, though - maybe like you on your hilltops...?
