Food chain
In the ocean the food chain is very strict.
On land, not quite as much. Humans are voracious predators, intelligence allows for a new food chain on land.
Humans have evolved to control the food chain.
Is it normal to think such things?

Or put a bit more succinctly, "When any human gets into the ocean, he or she immediately slips down several levels on the food chain."
Meh. People have a lot of misconceptions about predatory oceanic animals. Sharks don't eat people. Any bites are usually investigatory. Sharks mostly attack people because they mistake them for their regular prey. Of course, there are deaths caused by venomous ocean crawlies, like box jellies and stone fish, but that's all accidental.
The reason people get killed swimming is because they put themselves in an environment without the benefit of tools and utilities. If people wandered into the woods without bear bagging, bear mace, etc etc, there would be a lot more animal attacks on land. The ocean isn't any more dangerous than any other place. In fact, there are land animals that willfully hunt people. Ocean creatures just get a bad rap cause jaws.
Sharks are the most beautiful animals. Did you know that they literally have a 6th sense?
In the ocean every creature just poops and urinates and vomits and bleeds and has sex in the open so theyre all living in each others filth. This is why i, the Sailor, enjoy sailing the ocean so much. Because i feel right at home in all the filth
