Finger lickin' good...? what do you think of this?

So you're in a shop and the assistant licks their finger so that they can get a better grip on the bag for your things (if you have a bag.) I'd like to know what people think of this? Personally, I don't like it and I'd rather they just spent an extra second or two getting a bag. Not everyone in retail does it, so is it really neccessary? I don't want a stranger's salavia on my bags. Am I over-reacting?! It's just especially when there are bugs going round it's a damn good way to help spread them! : / I wouldn't do it if I worked in a shop for my own sake too - all that money you'd be handling etc - tasty.

Eurgh! I can't stand it and it puts me on edge 6
It's disgusting, I don't like it and they shoudn't do it 6
I don't like it, but I can deal with it/don't care that much 13
I don't care, they can lick my face for all I care 7
Never even noticed 6
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I prefer when they lick the sack directly.

I feel like I have to give a serious answer after saying some shit like that. No, I don't really care. I mean i would prefer they didn't but I wouldn't care enough to say something to them. We encounter far worse, whether we know it or not, on a daily basis

We tend to pack our own bags here. It makes sense. We're just standing there doing nothing while the cashier scans the items. Plus we know the arrangements of our cupboards at home so we can pack things together that will be stored together.

But no, I don't like finger licking. I have a friend who licks his finger before he deals cards. Then he deals like one card a second. He's so slow as it is, licking his finger isn't going to make a difference.

Sorry, most of this is about other things than finger licking. But no, I don't like it.

People do it with magazines too. But that's not so bad because it's usually theirs. I find the bag licking goes on more in smaller shops, stationary shops, cosmetic/pharmacy shops. Less so in supermarkets. Unless, I've done a massive shop, I tend to use self checkout so that I don't have to get into chit chat!? And I can get my own bags! Really need to remember my 'bag for life', though. Sometimes I do, honestly.

My friend does it with newspapers (same friend who does it with cards). Since this got posted, I've been victim to a bag-licking incident myself and it *was* in a small shop and I was only buying one item. I kept thinking, "Just give me the item and the bag and I'll resolve this". I also thought about this post and that one day I'd tell you of what happened to me. And now here I am!

Ha ha! Love it. I think it happens more in smaller shops. Mind you, it happened to me in WHSmiths the other day.

Wow, this takes me back. I used to camp out in WHSmiths. Getting magazines online and having a Kindle has kind of killed it for me. Maybe I should hire WHSmith employees to lick their fingers and rub them all over my Kindle.

I think Smiths has gone downhill (and they've become more expensive!) Good luck with the Kindle slobber mission....

I actually like that we have baggers, because standing in line is difficult for me (disability etc), and I'm liable to drop things. I bring my own bags, though, and there's no need for licking, as they're canvas.

Actually, most stores around here have little pots of sticky stuff at the registers for cashiers to use on their fingers so they don't have to lick them to handle bags and money.

Own bags is a good way to go - very environmentally sound. Sometimes I forget mine : /

At first, I thought this was going to be about KFC. I know this has happened to me a few times before, but I can't remember where. I don't like it and I think it's very unsanitary. The grocery store I used to shop at had some cashiers who would have a little box of, what I guess was coloured wax, and they would use that to have a better grip on money or bags. Strangely, I've been noticing that less cashiers seem to do this for some reason.

I reckon less people do it now because managers have asked them not to. Anti-bac gel has been popping up all over the place in the UK since the swine flu 'epidemic'. Bit OTT but there are a lot of old people here so I think it was partly to help protect them. But personally, I just don't touch my face (or pick my nose) in public! That's quite an effective way to lessen your chance of picking up a bug or flu. I always wash my hands before I eat too. Anyway, what I mean is, places have been having a bit of a crack down, I think. Of course, it relies on people being healthy too. A bit of hand gel and some wax for bags isn't going to give us all immunity... lol

This wouldn't bother me, I am not easily grossed out. It's their mouth. People do much grosser things than this.
