finally escaped only to meet someone terrible!
How normal are landlords like this? Or normal moving problems?

Moved in with friends landlord knew about us and wanted us to sign a lease to add money onto the rent. we even had an appointment to meet with him to sign the agreed lease. he called a few days ago to tell us he changed his mind and wants us out O_o.
so basically allowed us to move in with our friends then changed his mind before we could get together to sign a lease.

other things he said that make me question if he might be a sociopath...
he told my boyfriend that he should leave me because i dont make any money (at home mom) then bragged about how his wife works for him.
we arnt allowed a pet here so we gave our pet to a friend that we knew would take good care of her...it was a long 5 hour drive to friends but worth the peace of mind that our pet is well cared for....landlord told us we should have killed our pet...you know because it was a wast of time and money.

Sounds as if you wouldn't want him for a landlord anyway - what a weirdo

I have a really long bad landlord story. The short of it was that he broke laws and got away with it somehow, including illegally throwing us out even though we had 90 days to decide if we wanted to sign the new lease under the rent stabilization law. He felt he could rent out the apt better the sooner we got out, but we had a legal right to be there. He turned off another tenent's water... got away with it. Some of these landlords are horrible.

At least you won't have to deal with that landlord any more. He sounds like a total asshole. That's not normal and not cool at all.
In my experience, they like to have the names on the lease of All the people living there. But I've had people come and go (with just my name on the lease) without it being a problem, and definitely without any extra rent being charged.
But in a private rental, it's up to him if he wants to charge more rent, he can. Whatever.
But to change his mind at the last minute...what an asshole. But again, he's within his rights, I think. Nothing had been signed. It's just really poor form.

Like you said, there's obviously something wrong with him, from the things he said. So at least you're done with him.
But it leaves you in a shitty situation with presumably nowhere to leave. Live and learn I guess.

yeah. The upside is i dont think i need that kind of person in my life.
and the downside is searching for a good apartment in the same area.
just now we had a nice appointment and walk threw of an apartment. Its full capacity right now but we will be #1 on their waiting list. She said it never stays full for long...so hopefully within a month someone will move out and we could move right in there.

its a big place with 108 units. online it has 4 stars or 4 1/2 stars ratting.
          the place looks really nice.

the lady said usually something happens and people decide to move out.

Ohh, I was thinking it was a house for some reason. Your previous situation must have been pretty bad to relocate like this, that stinks. I hope this all works out for you guys.

              my bfs mom was crazy.

i wrote about her a bit here one time.
              http://isitnormal.com/poll/my-bfs-mom-188582/

but she has done a lot more a lot worse.
once i yelled at my daughter to come inside...not because she was in trouble but because she was across the yard and lunch was ready. my bfs mom started yelling out her window at me for yelling at my daughter... this caught me off guard. She even punched out her screen to her window still raving at me like a mad man. i took my daughter inside keeping her behind me as we made our way to my room. his mom had come out of her bedroom still yelling...she took two objects and threw them at me...one a can bounced off a nearby counter and hit me. I called my bf and he had to leave work... his job told him if he left not to come back. well he left and called the cops on his way home. so basically he got fired because of her. He was too worried to leave me at home alone with her...but at the same time needed a job. he eventually found another one. one that didnt give him as many hours.

another time i asked my daughter not to play in the bathroom and make it messy... she played in the bathroom and messed it up...so naturally i spanked her twice on the bum and sent her to her room. WELL...johns mom started yelling at me ranting about "WHY ARE YOU HITTING HER!!!" and just going off. in this situation tho my bf was there and he confronted her...so she directed her anger at him...during the argument she hit him in his face...she tried to swing at him a few more times but was slow and missed...strange thing was she started accusing him of wanting to hit her and being violent ...even tho she was clearly the violent one.

there are many other stories i have but those two are the only ones where she was physical.

Fair enough... I guess 108 units is so much that there would be a continuous turnover
            Good luck, anyway ;)

You got out before the landlord was a problem. Remember that consequences are sometimes necessary. In dire circumstances, you could always mail a box of cockroaches to the landlord's home address for retribution.

I'd replace the glitter with cockroaches. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Who moves in anywhere without first getting a signed lease? Were you going to sub-let with your friends in the same apartment or in the same building but different apartments?

its a house they found... my bfs mom is super crazy. We had to just leave. We finally had enough money to get the hell out of that situation...and so we left. I first had to go to tx for my moms wedding since we were leaving the state we took the opportunity to just never go back. Our friends offered us a place to stay in another state. they live in a big house like one upstairs room over the garage and 3 downstairs bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. more then they even use.
we liked the neighborhood and wanted to stay. with the agreement of the landlord as he was knowledgeable on our situation and said we could stay but he wanted us to sign a lease and add extra rent for us to pay.

we were not planing on staying long more of a house guest while we searched apartments nearby...so why would we sign a lease before moving in? since we liked it here after a few days and wanted to stay the landlord made a verbal agreement with us...but then suddenly changed his mind, threatening to evict everyone if we didnt leave. He gave us 2 weeks.

we are now searching near by places to move into. we cant move far as we settled into this neighborhood and my bf got a job that pays very well.
