Feeling bad for my basil plant

I had a basil plant. I used all it's leaves and I thought I could throw everything away (it was just a flower pot with some earth in it) but then I saw a tiny, tiny plant. So I kept it in the sun, watered it everyday and slowly it started to grow. I talked to it for fun, like: hey little plant, want some more water? And that's why I started to feel like it's like some pet. I recently saw a documentary in which they told plants actually have lots of feelings. Now I feel so bad for using the leaves. It feels like I'm torturing my kid or something... And that feels stupid. Does anyone recognize this?

Just save the seeds, plant the seeds and create lots of new baby basil plants. Last year, from one single purple basil plant I grew about 100 new plants.

    • That's super nice! But I honestly don't know where I can find the seeds...

The plant doesn't care, think of the leaves as its armpit hair at which you are plucking.

Yes, plants have feelings (sort of) but what can you do? You have to eat something.

This is why I am an omnivore - I don't discriminate against plants, I am willing to make animals suffer too.

    • You're right. I'm a vegan and that's why this feeling sucks lol

It grows like a life form, it looks like a static object. It's a plant. Kaboom! It turns out it has a life and can feel things. Of course now that you know the truth, you feel bad and start to compare it to another life form, which is exactly what it is. Give the little thing the treatment it deserves.

    • I've always been very aware of this (I have grown herbs before) but with this little thing it's different and using it feels wrong.. haha
